CCP - ships - filling in the gaps - fanfest 2012.

During fanfest 2012, we heard that CCP was looking to fill in the gaps of ship lines and the destroyer line was mentioned. After that nothing more was said. I have looked at dev blogs and haven't came across anything more about this filling in the gaps and the destroyer line.

What exactly did this filling in the gaps mean? ...and... Will destroyers be getting a little love this year?

If anyone has links to more info about this and destroyers I would be grateful!

I hope they aren't implying adding more ships. Thats the last thing Eve needs atm.

Frigs are getting love in Inferno.

Filling gaps means fixing old tech1 ships with mixed weapon system(3 turret, 1 missile with 4 highslots) to 4 turrets. It also means re-addressing the roles of certain ships. The mining frigs for example are going to have med-range combat capabilities.

No cite available sorry. But basically filling gaps means fixing the ships that currently not good at anything.

Yes...they are. They also stated at Fanfest that one of their goals is to make more ships. Grow the number of different kinds of ships available to be flown.

Yes...they are. They also stated at Fanfest that one of their goals is to make more ships. Grow the number of different kinds of ships available to be flown.

They also said they only wanted to add ships if there was a role for them to fill, so they won't just add new ships for the hell of it.

My current guess is that the winter expansion will have new ORE mining ships to replace the mining frigates and cruisers, and a new line of destroyers that use each race's other weapon system.

Also, if ring mining comes out in the winter, there may be 1 or 2 new specialized ring mining ships.

Mini freighters. 100,000 m3 cargo, +1 to warp core stab per level (rank 12), 2 low, 2 mid, 1 high. About as big as an orca. Probably cost about an orca to build too... Requires industrial V.

Implant salvager ships for salvaging implant components from corpses. Special ability: Can salvage while cloaked. T3 frigs.

A capital ship tugboat or a dedicated packaged capital mover? A blockade-runner ship that can warp cloaked but is SLOW to warp (blockade runners warp almost as fast as shuttles) with a big boost to cargo (again, 50,000 m3 base). That should give greedy haulers a tempting option as well as pirates a tempting target in low sec!

The useless part is something they're intending to tackle with the revamp to pretty much every ship in eve over the next 'x' months and years.

They're intending to have ship lines where you have dedicated ships for dedicated tasks and the correct attributes and bonuses to achieve the task rather than the current teir system we have, ultimately you could end up with tons of ships at every level each with their own niche.

Salvaging bodies cloaked, not ships (would require bio-salvager)? Why not? It would encourage the very risky business of ninjas going into alliance fights to salvage bodies. That would be a fun mini-profession... and an especially dangerous one! It's just an idea in-line w/ this thread.

We need more destroyers.. Since the destroyers are going to become mandatory training for Cruisers and such, they need to make that stop worth it..

One or two new tiers of them..

As for what.. Historically a major roll for Destroyers was for taking out subs.. to me, that translates into making one ideal for countering SB's.. Every high Scan Res, but minimal DPS.. so basically keeps them decloked..

But really I don't care what they do, so long as they exist and have a roll that can be used in some way.. Just so that training them isn't a waste of time..



They are also adding more ORE ships, their own mining frigates, and the like..

Sorry bro I play the internet spaceships game for the internet spaceships. I know some people play for social interaction, but I have RL friends I don't like for that. Some play to stroke their epeen, I have RL people for that too. All I need from Eve is internet spaceships, I don't have RL spaceships. Internet part is optional!

Yeah thats what I was getting at. They should fix the useless ships first before they start adding in more. Which is why I cringed when I they released the tier 3 BCs,

There are already spaceships in game, there are good , mediocre, and useless ones. The useless ones should be fixed and made useful before adding in brand new ones. Ofc fixing useless ones to become useful would in its self be like adding in new ones. The idea of quality over quantity comes to mind, more is not always better.
