Autopilot Overview Color Differentiation.

I'm in system A.

I set a waypoint to system B.

Then a waypoint back to system A.

In system X, between systems A and B, both Stargate A and Stargate B are highlighted yellow in my overview.

How do I determine which one I want to jump to?

I can either memorize the name of each system as I go so I know which gate is 'backwards'.

I can hover my mouse over the tiny icon in the autopilot display.

I can open the map.

Or CCP could implement a [primary/next waypoint] [secondary/other waypoint] color scheme for the overview.

My proposal is that the stargate leading toward the next waypoint should be highlighted yellow (as it is now), and that stargates in other waypointed 'directions' be indicated by highlighting gates blue.

I agree. There have been many times where I ended up in a crossroad system where I'd have to take 1 of 2 gates towards my waypoints and not knowing which was leading where. I like the idea of coloring them differently, one color for the next waypoint and another for the rest. It's simple and effective. Maybe even add a number in parenthesis indicating which waypoint it's leading to?

If you're gonna post here thinking your idea is the greatest thing since bacon and that it will save EVE and possibly all humankind with it, you're gonna have a bad time.

I thought if they just stuck to colors it would be easier to implement, but anything that makes the UI easier to read is better.

I would have thought more people would have run into this issue.

The gate you have to go to on the way back is ~12KM from you
The gate you are going to is many AU's away
Simple, Yes?

Not always, I just used a really simple example.

Lets just say I'm in Thashkarai, and I need to pick up some stuff from Nafrivik, Iro, Mani, Lossa, Atoosh and Tew.

I want to do this as fast as possible, so I optimise my autopilot, and undock.

When I look at my overview, the Remoriu, Atoosh, and Abai gates are all highlighted.

There is no easy way to tell at a glance which gate I should jump to.

The obvious choice is to jump to the Atoosh gate, as it is one of my targets, but it is actually the 3rd of the optimised waypoints, so going there first might slow down the overall trip.

My actual target is the Abai gate, but to know that I have to look at the map, or hover over the tiny route icons.

It really should be clear in the overview, because it is the overview I interact with to jump to the gate, not the map or route display.

I support this thread. It would make autopilot less frustrating without making it 'easier' for those who are concerned that carebears will spend all day having fun autopiloting and laughing.

I agree, this would be a handy thing to have. Was just thinking the same thing a couple of days ago.

Yes, it's not that hard to look at which gate you just warped through, but not having something like this when it should be easy to implement is just creating hassles for the sake of it. I can't see any real value in not having such a simple guide.

Not something I use but I can see how it would be handy, on the other hand I can usually read the name of the next system I have plotted in the top left section of my HUD as long as I have it set to display waypoints and read the name of the gate in the overview. It would probably be easy enough to just highlight the next gate you have plotted instead of all gates you have plotted.

on the top left of my screen is a line of coloured boxes showing your route. Just above that it says "Next System in route: SystemName"

However changing the yellow highligheted icons so only the next one was highlighted, or the other ones had a different colour would really help.

I want to be able to see 'next gate' via overview, and be able to jump to the gate from the autopilot route.

Perhaps for each leg of the journey a numbered or lettered designator can be placed over a spot in the route.

IOW, when you click your first waypoint up, you designate it as stop #1 and the icon for it doubles in size in the Autopilot info grid and overview and a big 1 is super-imposed across the icon. Then you designate your second waypoint as stop #2 and the same thing happens except it says 2. Now, in between each icon in the line of colored icons between your designated waypoints, each icon and stargate name/icon will have the preceding number super-imposed over it, designating it as that particular leg of your journey.

Of course these icons would be designated by you and could be altered at any given time to your whims.

I likes the idea. Can't think of a reason not to put this in.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."
