Bombardment module

With the new ship balancing changes coming and a bombardment line, I was thinking that it would be cool if there was a module that operated like the siege modules on dreads, but for smaller ships.

Immobilize the ship for the module duration while boosting weapon damage, perhaps by increasing rate of fire, and boosting range. I am not decided if it should cost fuel like the dreadnaught modules do.

I can't really say I disagree with this, i can see where it would be neat.

However...dreadnaughts can get away with it because they have a lot of HP...smaller ships aren't going to last very long in this state.

Unless the bombardment module has a long spool up time, Dust 514 is going to get screwed - especially if small, expendable, cloaky ships can use the module. I say this because from what I saw during fanfest, it's one huge alpha rather than a sustained barrage.

All an expendable ship would have to do is approach the site, decloak drop their load and flee. There would be little a defending fleet could do to stop this - and even if they caught the ship afterwards, the damage would already be done and it was an expendable ship anyway. Instead (even though it pains me to deny stealth bombers the role), large slow ships should be required to use the module and it should have a long spool up.

Thus, the large ship and a RR support fleet would be required to keep the ship alive long enough to engage the module (assuming the enemy was already defending the planet), and that support fleet would require a fighting wing to decrease the incoming DPS from the defense fleets.

So yeah, immobilizing the ship and giving it a long wind up time is a good idea.
