people ask this because it's months of training skills plus the fairly steep ISK cost of skillbooks and, of course, the ships

This...

When people say "If you have to ask your not ready", I just read that as "I'm an arse and have nothing constructive to add to the discussion"

How are you supposed to learn if not by asking questions?

Sorry if I refuse to spend months of training + cost of skill books on just guess work.

I guess I must just be weird that way.

As of 2 months ago, I could plug in either Minmatar or Caldari carrier skillbook but the Nidhoggur just didn't cut it for wormhole space based on the stats so I was left with the Chimera as my only reasonable option. I spent subsequent days comparing the Chimera to the Archon on EFT, continuously trying to come up with a Chimera fit that could put out similar stats to a basic Archon fit but I failed to no dismay.
I proceeded to cry for the next few hours after realizing that I'd have to train for the archon, which in turn means I'd have to wait another month and a few days before getting a carrier.

I hope I was able to put enough emotion into this to show how terribly disappointed I am in any shield tanking carrier. CCP NEEDS to reduce the cap consumption of remote capital shield reps (remote capital armor and shield reps have the same repair amount and duration but cap consumption is out of wack) and also reduce the effect cap power relays have on shield booster effectiveness or for the love of God, make crystals work with capital reps. Sheesh!!

It's clear that CCP is trying to balance armor and shield fleet setups given that shield ships tend to deal more dps than their armor counterparts but it's clearly not working as armor reigns supreme.

Honestly, if all it comes down to is one calculation in one scenario then why spend months retraining basic skills when a Niddy could be just fine doing it?

There are so many variables at work if you over compensate a bit it would have been fine.

I heard Nags were pretty cool in Bhaal heavy wormholes.

Plus it's vertical.

Not much else can be added to the 1st guys response, he's right on.

no carrier can be compared with archon, period.

just spend another month to train for archon and profit

Hey all,

I am nearing the point where I will be ready to start training for Capital Ships, however I am stuck for which race to go for.

Is there any major difference between the 4 races in regards to Cap Ships ?

Is there a clear best or a clear worst ?

Cheers for the Help

Prince

Can't go wrong with Amarr. 2nd best dread, best carrier and supercarrier.

This, unfortunately. Why unfortunately?
Well, seems new training trees will make peoples choice very difficult. Knowing game status (omgfpownmatarI'mgodmode) Gallente noobs will be more inclined to quit the game after 3weeks, caldari ones will be stuck to pve, amarr ones will be good but never on top and matar ones good everywhere.

What does this means? -as long as you've started the game for a while now, just stop asking yourself those silly questions (yes silly) and move on to train everything that gives you the biggest number of races choices because the day you'll be stuck in a single one you'll be either OP or just a punching ball.

I'm inclined to think making these two ship skills that are destroyers and battle cruisers mandatory and racials are not a good thing overtime. Racial yes, mandatory for BS and above I'm not on.

If you're going to use Dreads a lot then train Gallente first. The Moros is so much better than the Revelation that it's not even funny. If you're going to use Carriers more (which is likely) then train Amarr. Honestly though, it's worth training both.
