Well, I messed up and re-upped my account into what seems to be a new Hulkaggedon. yay!

Mothballing the Hulk looks like and going to the Covetor for isks' sake, but still have a couple questions and Google is being stupid.

Can I dock the mining ship in the Orca if either/both are aggressed, targeted or taking active fire?

What size of gank squad would I need to be worried about entering a system before safespotting or docking outright?

Yes, you can dock in ur orca..................
Ganks seems to happen with 1 or a few Destroyers...... (Catalyst/Thrasher)

Single destroyer can...destroy...your covetor.

Takes a lot to blow up an orca though, especially if you hull+shield tank it.

Oh, I have no doubt that a ganker, even one, will take out the barge, tanked or otherwise. What I was concerned with is if I am targeted in the barge, can I still dock with my orca? At least then I can jump in a combat ship and give em a fight til Concord shows up. I plan on tanking the orca, albeit at a loss to capacity, til the current surge against miners is over.

Yes, you can dock, but only if you're within 2500 m, and in my personal experience they usually know enough to bump you away from it before they attack.

Also, you can't dock it if anything but charges are in your cargo. So you have to shut off the lasers, jettison any ore, and THEN dock. I made that mistake once too.

Although just beware that if an NPC already has aggro on the ship, that ship may not be able to dock unless you do something about the NPC. Just letting you know.

So...there is a difference between NPC aggro and being targeted and Player aggro and being targeted?

Also your cargo hold need to be empty before you can do it... so you need to stop your mining lasers, empty cargo then switch ..
Easier to tank your hulk and put a large shield rep on the orca. They will need time to pop the orca if they hit it first, so can then switch into a basi or any cruiser that can give the orca some life.. you only need max 20 seconds. My orca has over 200k ehp and my hulks have 25k ehp.. they not going to insta pop, so I have time to do some healing.. This all works as I have used it before... suppose if a 10 man gang in tornado's come they will kill my hulk.. but hasn't happened yet..
