Basicly... I hate the new font look. Glad I can say which one is 0 or O but why does it have to be so ugly. And so big ( I had to make my OV 20% widther to even see same information I had there before) - no, not everybody can play in 1920xsomething. And it's so 8-bit. I feel like playing on my Commodore again.

I play in 1920x1200 but still prefer the old font it is more readable than this new one for some reason. Hopefully CCP will give us a choice and we can still use the original font if we so choose.

I agree, old font needs fixing but its still better then this crap.

Nice to have a new font however, it is horribly oversized.

When displayed on a 1920x1028 resolution the overview window is unuseable.

The above ^^, I have that issue on my main desktop and my 1680 resolution laptop. There is so many size issues its ********.

People weren't asking for a new font entirely. They just wanted common problems fixed such as 0 and Os, Is and 1s, etc. Not LETS COPY AND PASTE COMIC SANS INTO THE GAME.

When is the right time to use a comic sans font?

Stop the madness

All the CCP "drama" this year didnt affect me at all. I was even siding with CCP a bit.

This? If it's mandatory, I'll do everything possible to make it known to CCP how pissed off I am.

ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN EVE COMIC SANS!

I'd be more in favor of forcing me to learn kanji and post in old Japanese than this new-font EXCREMENT.

Readable font: GOOD

De-caps on menus: BAD

Why is this bad? They're readable and they look good all being consistent size. By changing them to caps-on-first, they all look like starts of sentences. Ugly.

After playing with the new font for 4 hours, I went back to the old font with a sigh of relief.

Yes, its readable...but its horrid on the eyes for extended periods of time. It also really doesn't work in well with the UI at all.

Redundant Report from the Redundant Redundancy Department of Redundancy:

Font is too big for normal screens, probably good if you have a big TV or something
In chat; names should have some way of distinguishing themselves from normal text (bold font for names)
Linking items, etc doesn't seem to work.

Right now my only complaint is that the new font looks a little big. Ideally I'd like to see everyone be able to select their own font size, but I have no idea what this would entail (I seem to remember something about this in the past, and it breaking all kinds of overview stuff).

I wouldn't call it perfect yet, but as is, it's a HUGE improvement over the current font.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it.

Some of those issues have already been raised (and in some cases fixed) internally, the Q has for example been fixed Smile

I'll be creating defects on some of the other issues.

I'm not very comfortable with the current font. I'm too resistant to change, I guess. ^-^ At the very least, let us pick which font we use in our clients. I'd appreciate that.

What also doesn't help is that this new font in Sisi has been giving me headaches. Did no one at CCP actually test the "reading comfort level" of the font? :\

Or I could just be ill and not feeling very good. I don't know.

Not sure if it has been mentioned anywhere, and i'm only basing this observation on the pics from the devblog, but this is what i'm reading when looking at this image: http://content.eveonline.com/www/newssystem/media/2208/2401/escmenunew.jpg

"Snow tutorials" (or is it "tutonals"?)
"Snow infiicted nit notifications"
etc etc

I would not call this font particularly readable just from that picture alone.

Edit:
Basically, all "high" letters, such as h, d, b, t, f, look pretty much terrible.
And the combination of "ri" looks atrocious.

I'm not sure if this has been covered, but periods are nigh invisible with this new font and commas aren't much better. Likewise, colons and semicolons are difficult to see.

Font without shadow will look different on different color backgrounds. Need to add shadows first then look again.

The question is why dont hire good artist to make new font for the game? The artist who is specializing in vector graphic and pixelwork. I can also work with photoshop, but I would never start new font, because I know there are people who can make this work better then myself. Where is old font designer?

The new font is alright.

It is better than the old one for sure, but it can still be improved upon a lot.

  • Its a little big, make it smaller or at least the option for it to be smaller.
  • It doesn't really fit the EVE style, it should try to be at least slightly integrated into the science fiction atmosphere. Keep it readable but make it suave.

Font is too big, and ugly.
I suggest using Arial font, it looks better.

Sample:
http://www.netsky.org/eve/carbon/newfontconf.png

onflagration L instead of Conflagration L

Where's my ™ ?
http://www.netsky.org/eve/carbon/tmmissing.png

™ is very small in new fonts, i want it to be as is in the old font.
Cool

Also linking an item and paste-ing it into chat doesn't work.
No links for new fonts.

I tested the new font on both a 22" and 24" screen and it is 30% too large. I need to cover alot more space to get the same informations that I get now with overview, directional scanner and chat windows open.

If I may recycle Krispy's imagery, I'd like to point out that interpunction is near impossible to see in many places, e.g. the Security level and the time.

Also, the character spacing (horizontal width between chars) is excessive. My overview needs to be nearly fullscreen@ 1920x1440 to be able to see name, speed and traversal columns (ok I'm exaggerating but not a lot)

I have the font size set to 13 because I'm playing on a 42" TV, any smaller and I can't read it. Smaller font settings should help with everything showing better.

There was a font specialist who made the font. I didn't make it myself Blink

Well the real question in the end is what changes are going to be made before font hits tranq... ?
Will players get some options? Have the issues with font size being adressed and will there be actions to fix them?

I have really bad hunch that this will be dejavu from Incarna launch. People get 3 more quarters and ship spinner back, but they lose totally working font and are unable to select it back from options screen. They get pissed because many of these issues and boom - we have perfectly fine expansion turned to disaster again.

I remind that people wanted fix to "I1, O0, 5S, 6G&, 8B"-issue and _option_ to choose font size. Someone made decission to reinvent the wheel (again) and create own font to fix the issues. Now we have expensive new font which fixed some old issues issues but caused many brand new ones. People are still unable to choose font size. Well spent subscription fees again.

If you licenced "arial unicode ms"-font it is really difficult to understand why didn't you just use it for everything. It has fixed width numbers, is very readable even with smallest 8 pixel height and scales to what ever size you want. It has nice dot and comma. "n" and "h" look like "n" and "h". Letter "a" has nuff spacing on left side. "La" doesn't look like the "L" would be inside the "a".

Now look back to the goals:
1. Fix "I1, O0, 5S, 6G&, 8B"-issue
2. Provide _option_ to choose font size.
3. Do not break anything what wasn't broken with old font.

When you wake up in the morning when your font fix is about to go live, can you honestly say that these goals have been reached. Some answers would be kewl.

It is perfectly ok to think ahead and fear for the worst. I may sound over dramatic, but really trying to ring fair heads up "warning bell" here. Obviously you people are the ones who make the final decisions and form your own future. Sometimes I may not agree with them but unfortunately as your customer I still have to live with 'em (as long I am paying the sub fees).
