I'm gay.
And I love EVE. Because once I was a boy I had a dream that I could be an astronaut flying a ship to the universe.
Now I become a mechanical engineer. But thanks to EVE my dream comes true.

The walking in stations is something ccp have promised for years. They promised to be able to get out of your spaceship walk around the station and look down on all the npc's that populate said station. Interact with other pod pilots, without blowing them up sadly, they promised the best graphics yet seen on a game of any kind that had avatars of some kind they failed. Then they said they are putting it on the back burner but at least they gave you the option to opt out of it.

The only up side to the station junk is you can see your character walking around, good for a whole 30 seconds after that it's a waste. If you have it turned off it dose not even stay turned off sometimes it'll just decide to load of its own accord bring on a button to completely disable even the option of doing that and I'll be happy as Larry (don't know who he is but apparently he's very happy).

Precisely. And having been in Second Life for a while really underlined said failure for me. You can't try and do both at the same time. So, since Captain's Quarters is a joke compared to the (largest?) avatar based game in town: Second Life, I say: don't even bother developing Incarna any further, and just concentrate on being a good space game.

Just prior to signing on to EVE I checked out the Second Life webpage. I heard of the game but knew absolutely nothing about it but after reading the website for a few minutes it just seemed too weird so I quickly navigated away. After reading this thread I'm even more glad I didn't bother with it, especially after reading about furries and penis rain.Shocked

The idea of WIS isn't that terrible when it comes to immersion and adding another layer to Eve. However CCP decided to go over the top with it and created this over polished turd thats poorly optimized and has terrible controls called Incarna. If you look up Ambulation on youtube and find the demo CCP had in 2008, that would have been a better direction to go. It was toned down enough to do what it needs to(and not kill peoples GFX Cards) and yet still look good.

I used to be a staunch supporter of BiS (Barbie In Space), aka Incarna. During one of the many threads on the topic someone suggested that those im favor of it go play something like Second Life. Out of curiosity I did just that, and got myself a Second Life account.

Well, after a few months playing, building and decorating various homes, at this point all I can really say is: don't bother any more with Incarna. I mean, finding myself back into Captain's Quarters was like being trapped inside a wooden body, however pretty, awkwardly moving around, bumping into the furniture, unable to 'cam' around or even leave my home. It was a dreadful 'welcome home' experience for me.

So, yeah, just forget about Incarna. Either that, or improve upon it tenfold; but in its current incarnation Incarna sucks 9 ways to Sunday. And I've switched to 'spinning' view now.

After Inferno, there might (emphasis on the word "might") be iterations on Incarna because many of us were expecting Crucible and Inferno to improve on what CCP has neglected for ages: internet spaceships. In fact, so many things about internet spaceships have improved during Crucible and much of what's missing will be iterated on with Inferno that CCP might consider iterating on Incarna. After all, once there is nothing left to improve on internet spaceships for a while, then Incarna might get the love it deserves by first opening that damn door.

Oh, and expect to see a lot of us here to want to use guns in Incarna. I look forward to one day being able to shoot at my opponent in the face online with a plasma weapon.

If you look at Incarna as a tech demo, it's not so bad... cause that's really what it was. If CCP hadn't billed it as a full-feature expansion, I don't think it would have been caught in the AUR/monocle/etc crossfire as badly as it was.

On the upside, all the work that went towards WiS so far is mostly under-the-hood i.e. the hard part. Now that the foundation is in place, there's a lot of different ways this could go. If you want to see some good dev feedback on current WiS progress, there's this thread in F&I.

Back on topic, Second Life isn't really a game. It's a visual chat room with a really robust scripting system. It's a good application to study and take notes from regarding true "virtual worlds." That, and it's hilariously easy to troll.

I have not played Second Life, but I have heard enough about it that it's almost like The Sims and I have played The Sims before (regrettably - *hides in shame*). Even though RMT is legal there, in some form at least (read the rules), it's not my cup of tea.

Incarna, as others have pointed out, was suppose to expand the gaming lore for players by adding a level of immersion regarding player interactions such as in-station smuggling of boosters, players policing the systems and ransoming the booster smugglers, as well as the possibility of players starting their own little in-station shops and bars for earning a little ISK. But, as others have said, CCP backtracked on a lot of things they said before the Jita Riots started and began to act in a greedy fashion. The players revolted, and now CCP is listening to the players and has been working on balancing spaceships like they were suppose to.

Of course, they have never neglected Incarna. The CQ has been mostly optimized at this point as people's video cards are no longer melting, and the frame rates and loading times have improved.

But the door is still closed.

you see, while having only social "gameplay" second life's greatest merit is that you can customize everything, and everything is player made, and thus it has become a cesspool for all kinds of freaks.

while the iron grip of eve online's art department on all things aesthetic allows for absolutely zero player made customizations (and for good reason). letting only the best of the best come to life in eve, like the oracle and the tornado.

thank you ccp art department for sheltering us from the horrible design sense of the general public and keeping the freaks out.

Jesus, the above quote was completely nauseating.. Not the gay part, the "Thanks to EVE my dream comes true." Sheesh, sometime I miss the endless trolling. I'll just head back to C&P then..

Now, regarding second life, it's a completely different platform, like comparing oranges and bananas.
Linden Labs provided a social platform with 3D avatars when others had chat boxes and avatar pictures or 2D models, their users built numerous in-game things on top of it, be it businesses (RMT), clubs with DJs playing live, artistic content, games (casinos, RPGs), and so on.

I can understand why you left out the x-rated stuff, but how do you know all this.. it is like you know what you are talking about!

and....Question

The sexy and hunky Gallente, Intaki, and Deteis, Civire, and Sebiestor dude avatars cater to me just fine.

The vests and muscle shirts cover up too much though. Gaylente need to be able to show some more skin if we are the kings of pleasure and entertainment like the lore says we are.

Problem is I like tall and skinny, all the avatars are waaayyy to fat. And would it kill them to add some mesh shirts to the wardrobe? If the female avatars can get new stuff why not the males?

Unless we get space thongs and space latex suits, I don't want to hear anything about Incarna. I'm already disappoint with the sheer amount of knee length or longer skirts.

This game is T, not E, show some ass.

You just need google for that, I dare not because there isn't enough therapy in the world to undo the damage.
