your log off and login in while annoying has a purpose. It kills off your sql server processes for that char. Eve is based on MS SQL. While it has gotten better over the years, your shutdown of char 1 and fresh start of char 2 allows for a nice clean trenasfer between characters.

Sql gets some process that jsut don't want to end nicely all the time and sure as hell don't want to share with others.. Think glenn close in fatal attraction and no these processes will not be ignored. the char dropping off the server and waking the new one tells these process to stfu and go away.

Don't worry, the DBA"s on the backend have it worse. they have their game accounts, do the same thing. And they have thier dba accounts on the servers, and they have thier normal user account (sysadmin rights have a tendency to mask user priveledge problems lol). This is why the command whoami was invented....sometimes with several accounts you can forget who the hell you are logged in as lol.

also, you seem to enjoy posting in mah threads so i cant put stock in your apparent frustration with my syntax

appreciate the sql info, its really just a minor inconvienience that most games dont force on customers to shut client to switch users, aside from getting that on par with the rest of the mmo industry i was thinking about if it would be improvement to hotswap between them, not about the programming difficulties of it, ill leave that to the people who get paid to worry about such thing

I just started playing a few weeks ago, but this is probably my #1 request. Having started a character on the same account, which I switch to frequently, I find it very annoying having to shut the game down every time. That, combined with the fact I get an Unable to Install Patch error every time I start the game and log in - I am going berserk.

Implement the one, fix the other, and I will be one damn happy Capsuleer.

This can be done by a script just as effectively as a player doing it manually, (current system).
The server can do the shut down and activation of the characters without making it necessary to drop the client software as it does now.

From the player's side, the whole of the desired effect is to not need to restart the client, and log in again manually.
