Did CCP get it wrong when they made this game?

From the original introductory movie:

"Four races...torn apart by two horrific wars. When all that remained were the smouldering ruins of lost cities and shattered lives, a universal truce was declared to end the despair. For more than a century the races of EVE have coexisted in relative peace. Prosperity and the pursuit of wealth govern the mission of mankind."

Y'see, I am not convinced this design or structure was the correct path to take.

Wouldn't it be better with borders and lines on maps that actually had meaning?

Well, come Inferno, the borders will actually change due to sovereignty being what FW fights for, not meaningless "occupancy".

Wasn't EVE bought by CCP from those who first created it?

Yeah, it was. Simon & Schuster Interactive might have had the vision you mention.

One person with a stick enters the sandbox and draws a line in the sand. "Guys? I think we should pick teams based on this line."

Suddenly, out of null space comes a hundred male Mallard ducks and pummel that person in to the sand. They then take his stick and draw an outline of his body in the sand for the CONCORD inspectors to help them with their murder report.

Before playing I assumed that the four races would be separated completely with low/null between them.

It does seem odd that you can safely travel between them.

Without war we would not need supercarriers and without supercarriers we would not need a third party service.

Same here. I actually think it'd be awesome if you had the 4 empires separated by null-sec, with a hotly contested low-sec border region between Amarr / Minmatar and a similar low-sec region between Gallente / Caldari.

Then make some materials unique to each of these empire regions and voila, you have the basis for trade and conflict to control trade routes.

This actually sounds kind of cool as an initial thought.
Aron should flesh this out an put it in F&I section.
Then we could get input as to the pros and cons

Right, if only CCP didn't nerf drone bays then we could keep mining...

Wrong. Simon & Schuster Interactive published EVE back in the early days but since they were terrible, CCP bought back the rights and here we are.

Why would it seem odd. Wouldn't Empires like to have semi safe trade routes for goods?

Did your mom drop you on your head as a baby? It was published by Simon & Schuster. What CCP purchased was distribution rights so they could self-publish.

You don't normally trade with people you're at war with it.

Ok. Just saw everywhere saying "By Simon & Schuster Interactive" when it was first released, with no mention of CCP at all.

And maybe you should try more fiber in your diet.

Actually, since there's a grand total of four factions, and they're ALL there is, i suspect trade would keep going in any case.

This has been proposed just about since EVE first started up. Every time it is brought up, the high secers scream bloody murder about it...
