Looking to switch from Amarr laser ships.

Hi everyone,

I want to give Eve another try, I played an amarr laser ship 2 years ago, but I quit basically because the ship bored me to hell, so I'm looking for something a little more active then waiting for things to die while blasting them from afar.

I happen to have 1,5 million skillpoints left after the Learning skill change, so I was hoping to use that to get into something new, quickly.
On the wiki, a particular sentence caught my eye. "Minmatar ships are often geared towards hit-and-run combat, typically being among the fastest ships in the game."
This sounds like something I'd want to give a try, a friend of mine suggested Galante, as well.

As I'm more or less brand new, I have no idea what other options there might be.
So, Eve'ers, do you guys have any suggestions for getting closer to the action?

I mostly want to just get back on my feet again and be able to start running missions and whatnot, later on I'd like to try out some pvp.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Some extra info...
I only played for a month, and I'm currently in possession of an Amarr Omen, Bestower and Arbitrator. I've been looking around some more, and I think I'd like to try my hand at an interceptor, but those are rather out of reach for now.
It takes me 19 days just to be able to fly them (although I could perhaps use the 1,5 mil SK for that?) and then I'd need 70 days to earn all the certificates. :P

Run up your frigate skills without switching races.

Frigates of any race are quick ships and require more active management. The Inquisitor might be a fun change of pace if you haven't done a lot of missile work yet.

Welcome back to the game sonny !

First of all let me introduce you to plex buying system ... obtain about 4 of those for starters.

Now that we have that settled .. Start training for minmatar ships and their T2 projectile weapons. You goal will be machariel with T2 weapons and T2 tank.

Now in about ... 90 days you will be the proud owner of a machariel that you can then fly and have fun in the game.

Great to have you back !

(but honestly start training minnie ships from down up and join a pvp corp that teaches people and aint too elitistic ... in the start finance your rifters with plexes)

Agree...go Minmatar. FOTM right now. The end to that is not in sight.

Agree on the Machariel. That's a just a bad, bad bird. Sometimes, when I fly into mission pockets to get started, battleships inexplicably blow up. Hmmm. (BTW - since you're already energy turret trained, consider the Nightmare as well).

LOL@needing PLEX to finance rifters. Try this instead:

1. Full clear/loot/salvage a good L4 mission.
2. Buy 10 Rifters.
3. ???
4. Profit

Sounds like you'll be wanting Minmatar ships or a Gallente blaster boat. I'm training into the latter out of Amarr myself.

Apart from the laser and Amarr frig skill, every skill you trained is directly transferable to Gallente ships. If you'ld like to try interceptors, fit ten Incursi and try them out.

If you're an Amarr veteran you'll have a good armor tank, so maybe Gallente will save you a few days training if you're missing a few ranks in shields.

If your a low SP character than it doesn't really matter which path you will walk down as the difference will be neglible in cross training right now. Mimatar has some of the faster ships in the game definately, but these things are not deal breakers. Look at all the ships and see which one you want to fly specifically and train for that. For mimatar our lower end SP ships from frig to bc that are usually favored are Rifter, Ruppy, Stabber, Hurricane, Tornado (if suicide ganking, which BTW concord doesnt pay insurance to you for blowing up your toys now)

And if you want a good small fast ship, you can pick a race and train up that races frigate V and works toward their assault ships and weapons/support skills. I can tell you assault ships are more than capable of running lv3's. 1.5mil SP will go a long way towards doing that, it is more than enough to get you into any of the races assault frigs and assault frig IV at least (just tested on evemon). And this is just my opinion but Minmatar frigs such as the Rifter (cheap thrills FTW) and their assault frigs based on it the Jaguar and Wolf are FUN to fly. More fun than any other ship I have flown.

Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you.

The new missile changes might make the Caldari line something worth trying. Nothing new technically but the visuals appear to be amazing and will be here soon. If you have a good computer and you run EVE on high settings you might wind up flying Caldari just for the eye candy.

Minmatar is fun to fly if just because they are the fastest out there. They aren't really "hit and run" anymore but rather "hit and make them run". Minmatar hits hard and if anything tries to get away you will be able to catch them.

Gallente's blaster buff has made them a ton of fun to fly. It's kinda irritating to get used to the balls to the wall gameplay but once you start seeing how fast your enemies melt it grows on you.

I know you want to deviate from Amarr, but if you haven't tried them, try the Khanid ships. They are a rather interesting bunch, nothing else in the game is really like them.

Take the next 2 weeks and train up for missiles.

With the new launcher models and missile effects coming in Inferno, it'll be worth the wait: http://youtu.be/qKpwtGDUiF8?hd=1

There is nothing wrong with amarr, its PvE thats the problem. You should try out other parts of the game.

Galente is the way to go from Amarr, as they are both armor tankers and hybrid guns have only 5sec reload time comparing to 10sec for projectile which for Amarr pilots feels like ages. You will sooner fly something meaningful in Galente range if you are Amarr pilot.
But it depends on your fighting stile beyond just range/dps/tank which most people consider.

Minmatar, according to upcoming patches it's reign as FOTM isn't coming anytime soon. Awesome for PvE because of being the only race with selectable damage and instant-damage, even better at PvP because best speed = target selection so you can just run away from things you don't wanna fight and catch things that wanna run away from you.

quit because a ship was boring to you?

the ship wasn't the problem. how you chose to play the game back then was.

until you fix that, you'll find another boring ship that will have you doing another post like this 2 years from now.

Not sure if serious.
