Marauder class tractor beams.

Marauders are pretty much PvE only boats, well i think it would be a good idea to give them some kind of role in pvp and maybe you could make a new module called a marauder class tractor beam, which can be used on hostile ships, dragging them in towards you. this module would be fittable only on marauders and would have limitations based on mass and tractor strength on what it can pull and how fast, This would not prevent them from warping but maybe slow their align time.

Or another idea is based on the same marauder class tractor beam that instead of slowing the enemy down, it vastly increases your speed towards them. Like pulling yourself in towards them. They are called marauders but they dont really fit the name "marauder". yet.

You must be reading a different dictionary

ma·raud (m-rôd)
v. ma·raud·ed, ma·raud·ing, ma·rauds
v.intr.
To rove and raid in search of plunder.
v.tr.
To raid or pillage for spoils.

Raid, plunder, spoils...does exactly that. Marauder moves in to a mission like its a raider, tractors in those wrecks, and plunders the loot while gathering the spoils of salvage.

And the module would either be insanley OP because you could not run from a point or it would completely negate the need for a web. See, this isn't star trek where the enemy ship is pulled towards you, you actually fly and stay in range of the other guy so he can not outrun you and slip away (which is the only counter should you manage to count his cycles and slip outside the range of his web, then WMD out the 20km of the point while he tries to catch back up...thats balance giving the other guy the chance to run away)

Pro-tip: For the same price as a marauder, you could be less of the idiot and fly like 10 BC or 4 Battleships for the same price.

I cannnot and do not fly marauders so heres a pro tip, dont jump to conclusions. other than that thanks for the constructive feedback with a taint of troll at the end.

was just an idea.

While I'm still relatively new I know marauders are mainly PvE boats and they serve that purpose well. And while I agree they should have a spot in PvP that role could be better fit by adding a bonus to webs rather then giving their tractor beam the ability to pull ships in.

While the idea works in theory, in the game it takes too much control from the player by disabling their ability to do much of anything except die. You can argue a tackler does that already but you can still maneuver your ship slightly under the affects of a single web and scram.

If you wanted to give marauders a better chance at PvP I would suggest giving them a web bonus to range and perhaps an additional bonus to web slow IF a tractor beam is in one of the high slots. There could also be a bonus to reducing the effectiveness of webs used against this ship.

The bonus would be relatively useless in PvE but for PvP could give them a unique spot in fleets, however their price would probably still be an issue.

Marauders basically can put out the most DPS of any Sub-Capital Ship, so you have to be careful what buffs you want to apply to them.

I agree mostly, however while they may put out the most DPS they also have one of the highest costs of any sub-capital ships.

Fit a pair of webs to a Blood or Serpentis ship and hit approach. There you go, just about as good as a ship tractor, lol.

As to your suggestion though, no.

The only idea I like for changing marauders, is giving them a warp strength bonus to make them a little more survivable outside of high sec/alliance null sec.
It would also be good for those time that you forget to call in your drones before hitting the next gate, and find yourself scrammed and unable to hit the frigate (while you clear the rest of the room)

Or just give them all 4 utility highs....
