Wow. These all suck.

I tried to come up with something to recommend instead, but my brain is simply frozen up with the idea of how awful these choices are to anyone but the most basic beginner character.

I was looking up and down the offers and searching for the one that says "10x PLEX, 1x super carrier and 10,000 exotic dancers". I now haz disappoint. Evil

I might go for the mining crystals as they are the quickest to sell. Reprocess -> Sell.

I think that's great, seeing the economy in Eve has gone nuts and prices have doubled, tripled, quadri... quad... quill... four times, I'm sure that these gifts are very useful to any novice pod pilot starting out on their adventure.

I'd take the mining kit, as it's worth the most ISK to resell, but my conscience can't let me do it.

The mining crystals are a joke. Everyone serious about mining use T2 variant as it does not take much skill. Everyone else use T1 strip miners. No one use T1 mining crystals. It took me 3 months to sell 17 of them on market and i was offering lowest price in region, in trade hub. The only use for those are reprocessing.

I picked the refining books. Then I realized I need to train refining to 5 and metallurgy to 4 and something else to 5 before I can use them myself. I think I'll sell them, at some point. Or become a carebear. I dunno yet. Pirate

Would it have killed CCP to give us, say, a full set of 3 or 5 t2 mining cystals? Or t2 ammo/laser crystals as an option?

Getting even 30 or so large t2 laser crystals would have been much more attractive.
