New Stealth Bombers: Manticore = Hawt. Everything else = ???

This is just my opinion, but after viewing the new designs I rate each as follows:

1. Manticore

2. Hound
3. Purifier
4. Nemesis

Why the Manticore wins: excellent shape/silhouette, great balance, outstanding colors. Very strong design.

Why the Nemesis is last: weakest shape/profile (ties with the Purifier), dull color scheme, yet again a so-so Gallente design.

I actually like the Hound, but the colors need much more contrast, and the shape needs to be more edgy, with some of the features pushed further so that the silhouette is more aggressive and defined. The Purifier is just boring, but not quite as blobby as the Nemesis. The torp launchers with their triple torps that never launch in threes are just ridiculous when mounted on the ships. There is an obvious issue with the length/volume of the missiles and where the launchers are mounted. Where does the extra volume come from in the ship? It looks absurd.

Anyway, I'll be flying the Manticore, just from a looks standpoint alone. I wonder if I can fit a probe launcher one one...

Discuss.

Also- the auto-saved draft feature of the new forums = awesome.

They all look good. For aesthetics, Amarr get first prize like they do with most of their designs but Gallente actually have a slick ship now too.

Minmatar got their classic, wing and a prayer look but we wouldn't want them any other way.

IF you are talking about this - manticore omg!

Fuuuuuuuuuuuu!

Old manti rocked. New looks like zerg hatchling. Or some lamborgini scarabei hybrid. Color scheme is ridiculous. No this type of art isn't my flavour.

Purifier is bland.

Hound is an improvement.

Tristan - total reshape. Imho not bad.

I actually think the Nemesis looks freaking amazing. Amarr looks horrible. Manitcore looks very nice, but the Nemeis is sexy.

New Nemesis is awesome. I was disappointed the Manticore kept the silly protrusion which looks out of place now. Much better colors and design overall though. Hound is very average looking and too curvy for my taste, like a shiny, stream-lined brown thing.

While I don't mind them updating Minmatar, (and they should, very much so), the Minmatar ships should retain some angular appearance to them. Streamline and smooth Gallente, Amarr, and even Caldari to some extent, but Minmatar ships should definitely be less focused on the really curvy stuff and more focused on making them appear sturdier and engineered for functionality.

Cleaning up some of those gaping holes like on the Tempest side thing would be nice. Very wierd to have parts of ships that have no structural connection to the rest of the hull. Aside from that, the main thing with Minmatar is the need for better textures and outward appearance of the functional structure. Heavy armor plates with a more seamless, milled appearance if you will.

Textures is definitely a big one, and by my opinion, all Minmatar ships should be Steel-like in appearance rather than some muddy brown like the new textures on the Hound and Rookie ship. There is very little definition with the current scheme, and it is playdough-like in appearance with very little transition between elements, kind of like how many people feel about the Sansha Mothership.

Textural contrast is very important in design as far as I am concerned, and plays an important role in making something desirable or appealing to the average player or person. It doesn't have to be great, like orange on black, but it does have to be there and create definition between elements and geometry. The new V3 textures for Gallente are a good example.

Minmatar colors may be dark orange/ochre nationally speaking put it doesn't mean that their ships have to be one solid splotch of roughly brownish, with some almost brown antennae-like sensor vanes. I assume they're sensory; I don't really know.

Also, Amarr need less gold and filigree. It's way too much for the outside of the ship to be that designed and it actually doesn't seem to translate that well to rendered graphics in most pictures I've seen, and on older ships, personally observed.

The Amarr Strategic Cruisers in the forum background are actually about what I would normally be thinking and seem about right in that render, but if you see them in game, they are essentially gold and shiny and unappealing to me.

Purifier doesn't look too bad, being mostly whitish with little unnecessary detail and filagree if any, provided the examples shown are a real indication of how it will look in game. The hardpoints? on the sides are a bit odd, but should look better when the new missile effects are in game and in use I would think. If they are not launcher hardpoints, then I have to say they are an unusual design choice.

I see they actually do have in-game renders now. Hadn't noticed these. Much better representations than the early youtube videos I saw posted, which I believe were player rendered and textured as samples after being extracted from the client.

Unfortunatly I see that, (despite my appreciation for angular, this is not what I meant), the hound still has square rods on the front support structure. This makes it look cheap and poorly constructed/concieved. Those rods should be at least some semblance of round, (which will actually look much improved with Tesselation and DirectX 11), and the color and texturing is still muddy and undefined.

Disappointing, but hopefully it isn't all the new renders and at least partially the fault of not the highest resolution/quality screenshots. That can make a fair difference. The pictures linked aren't that big and could be poorly compressed too.

The Nemesis and Purifier look really good.

The Hound has improved, but its still odd :)

Manticore looks improved, but still is seemingly close to its original shape (not that that is a bad thing).

Out of all, i'm happy the Purifier has lost its space-shrimp look.

That's way too advanced for a Minmatar build, so it obviously needs to be re-redesigned.

I have been meaning to get myself and my alt into Stealth Bombers and go flying around 0.0 or WHs looking for trouble.

These upgraded ship models may very well give me the push to go that.

loving the new Nemesis look.... can just picture it dropping cloak, pausing to look all badass and then unleasing rocket proppelled fury on some unsuspecting ship.

The new Nemeis looks like it could fly stealth w/o a cloaking device, very neat.

I liked the concept picture of the Manticore better, as the edges were sharper which gave it more of a diving bird of prey look, but I'll reserve my judgement until I see it ingame.

The Purifier looks like a heavy bomber now, I like that more than the old hull.

The Hound is still Minmatar, which is not for me, but that's personal Blink

I will keep flying the Manticore and will add a Nemesis on my characters.
