Well that's just bloody unreasonable.

Look, we've been over this. Let me summarize my points.

1) DUST is not aimed at the existing EVE fanbase, it's aimed at a completely different demographic. The feedback of your "random uncaring nobodies" is precisely what they're going to want MORE than that of the self-interested EVE player.

(Also, "random uncaring nobodies"? Really? you need to check your arrogance, son.)

2) The more places and avenues an announcement like this is made in, the more people it will reach. Given that the plan is for Fanfest attendees and us players who've signed up for the Beta to eventually get access anyway, it makes sense to remind us of this stuff. It's still relevant and important.

3) Paying for an EVE subscription does not entitle you to anything other than being able to play EVE. Anything else you get is a bonus or gift, but such gestures are not required of a company. It is NOT reasonable to demand them.

4) Grow the hell up.

I have been playing EvE since August 2008, sometimes with as many as three accounts.

I have not seen anything about Dust 514 that would motivate me to play it. I am willing to be agnostic about it, so long as the effort to create the New Thing does not ruin the Old Thing, which I like.

I suggest everyone check out the Sony Dust 514 Trailer, on Youtube. Sony is advertising Dust 514 as a typical FPS, with legions of EvE players lining up to be killed by the FPS guy, one after another.

The game, as Sony is portraying it, would not interest me from any perspective.

The loyal (and profitable, and growing) EvE player base is a valuable asset for a game. Trying to replace the existing player base with another one, in the hope it will be larger and therefore more profitable, is a very high risk business strategy. Personally, I would not do this, if I were CEO of CCP, or had financial responsibility for the company. A few months ago we saw the first detonations from this probably flawed strategy.

But, we shall see.

Okay, so the game doesn't crank your engine, fine. Taste is an entirely subjective thing after all.

But this sort of knee-jerk "I don't like anything new" conservatism is NOT how you run a company successfully. The fact that you personally aren't interested in DUST is not proof that it's going to flop.

also, I've got a word for you to learn: "Expand". meaning to increase, grow or enlarge. THAT's what DUST is intended to do: expand CCP's customer base, not replace it.

You might actually look like you have read a thread, before you give your standard "defense of Dust 514" speech. (Are you a shill for CCP? Are you CCP?)

I said I was "agnostic" to Dust 514. This means, I am willing to see what happens, & give it a try. I also said I did not object to anything, even a new feature that I did not want to play, so long as it did not destroy the play that already exists, which I like.

This sounds a lot like what you suggest I do. It also, generally, sounds pretty reasonable from any perspective.

Now, what about the concerns I, and others, have expressed? Do you have a viewpoint on those?

Well-played, sir. Well-played.

If only we had DUST available on the PC, I'd be all-in.

Alas, Tanks, Tribes and BF3 are closer to my heart as my girl, EVE, fades away...

4) Grow the hell up.

1) Regardless of what demographic DUST is aimed at, obviously it appeals to a large percentage of the EVE fanbase and shares the same universe and backstory. Obviously CCP knows this or they wouldn't have spent so much time presenting it at the EVE Fanfest, and then there's that little fact that they handed out beta keys to Fanfest attendees. And, it's obvious you didn't see any of the leaked videos. Too bad they've been removed from YouTube because if you had watched a few you would understand why I called them random uncaring nobodies.

2) I'll repeat myself... I, and most others on this thread, have little issue with a heads-up about the NDA and consequences for breaking it. The issue lies with the fact that CCP decided to warn everyone on THIS forum, the EVE Online forum, not a DUST 514 or PSN forum, about the NDA immediately after a bunch of random PSN players posted videos talking about how crappy the game was and how basically it was a Halo knockoff. This while the Fanfest attendees were still sitting on their hands waiting for the exclusive beta key they were promised. It felt to many like an accusation aimed at the Fanfest attendees that didn't even have the beta key they essentially paid for since they were told they'd get one for attending the Fanfest. Go back to the beginning of this thread and read some of the posts... the anger is palpable.

3) But, paying for a ticket to EVE Fanfest did entitle you to a beta key; it was used as a means to advertise the Fanfest and sell tickets, so your statement is an empty one. A lot of people were frustrated that they were told that if they paid for EVE Fanfest they would have exclusive beta access... but then it turns out that 5,000 random people who hadn't paid anything, and the vast majority of had never heard of EVE or DUST 514 beforehand got into the DUST beta first.

4) I'm not your son, and there's a good chance I'm older than you are, so lay off the insults, particularly since I did not insult you in any way. I would suggest you heed your own words, slinging insults at someone who made "u mad" on the internet by writing a post that happens to disagree with your sentiment.

This is my last post on the subject as the whole thing is water under the bridge now that the EVE Fanfest attendees have their beta keys. I'll reiterate simply that CCP could have been more tactful in the manner they handed this "warning" to players that felt like they'd been given the short end of the stick and then admonished for it.

Let's get it all straight.

CCP makes EVE players all happy about Dust with Beta Keys.

EVE players with Beta Keys can't go Beta because Sony uses it's arsebuddy system first.

Chances of someone being an EVE player and a Sony arsebuddy limits the amount of EVE players in DustBeta a lot.

Random people in Dust Beta break the NDA. (all of them people selected by Sony to get the working Betakey)

CCP starts to complain about this towards the big crowd of which MAYBE only a few actually have access to the incrowd of Sony.

Can we haz a WHAMMMMMBULANCE of care?

Because I actually don't care.
