I had this idea Suddenly pop into my head while i was watching the new video that CCP released during Fanfest about the templars.

The fight in space where all sorts of ships were blowing up, losing control, spinning, small secondary explosions.

here's what i think, instead of the insta-pop white/blue explosions we have now, how about having ships go out of control before they explode, like the rifter in the video, it was trailing great plumes of smoke before spinning into oblivion.

and since each race seems to use different colors for their engine exhaust, wouldn't one think that if the ship exploded, their explosions would be similar in color to the engine exhaust?

so to sum it up, what would you guys thing if CCP put a bit of effort into the great and delicious explosions we all love to see and added some color as well as some flair?

lemme know what you guys think.

if you watched the rest of ccp presents they demoed thier goals. My hopes is that wrecks of ships acutally look like their former owners.

well here is the extent of the demo.

They gutted an avatar in half.

Then blamed nice texturing tricks and gimmiks to cheat the gaping hole in it. Either way it would require all ships to be fully v3'ed at least and the animation art done for each ship going boom.

It was a Levi. And it was sexy.

The demo looked like they just took a section out of the avatar (like somone hapharzardly turned off the safties on the telporter and only did a 1/10th of the area lock.) other than that the ship was 'whole' cept for that missing section leaking atmosphere crew and plasma fires.

If you're zoomed in enough to see actual ship models you're playing Eve wrong. You probably have sound turned on as well.

hmmm, know of any link to this demo? or is there no way to see it... cause it still sounds interesting.

It was a Leviathan that was exploding all over and literally breaking in half.

That was another demo, there are two different ones.

However the leviathan blowing up was a 'goal' they will be going for however each ship will have to get thier own.

Where as armor and hull peeling off was demoed with an avatar one video and they explained it was a texturing trick to make it appear there is a massive holes in ships. So actual hull hits would start exposing decks to space. It was also mocked up with a hurrican in pictures.

My only wish is if they do make the hull start falling apart i would like to see a hull hp increase to at least allow some time to see a ship break apart.

I was watching an old video from the first year of eve and it showed some ships blowing up. They appeared to break apart in their explosion sequence, but did not leave a wreck. Wonder if it would be possible with new v3 to give the animation of the wreck texture spreading out explosions/fire as well before final boom.

Trouble with making ship explosions more spectacular is that with time, they become less and less spectacular as you see them repeat.

Ships going pop and making a little ball of light is pretty much just a humble way of handwaving the issue.

To make complicated ship destruction effects more repeatable, CCP would basically have to make several effects for each ship, which mix up, intermingle and position differently each time a ship explodes, to form a timeline of events that appears a single event, but different each time. I guess this would be immensely expensive for both them and game clients.

Also, I fail !

Can someone provide a link to the Leviathan explosion video?

This.

And if you have explosions turned on, it's probably why your pod died too. :)

(Though sound is perfectly fine to have turned on - Eve needs more alerts and beeps and sirens and feedback from the crew when stuff happens on your ship.)

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.
