It would be awesome if I could somehow buy a few PLEX's and then redeem them to buy CCP Snorlax a beer or something.

I think this would be a really fun feature.

There's a term for this in the corporate world. It's called "Conflict of Interest(s)".

How so? I was thinking it was more along the lines of a tip. Thanks for doing a great job.

Send him an E-Mail or a letter and a gift card or something then. No need to mess with the in-game economy to send a dev a thank-you.

Shamelessly stolen from Wikipedia.

A conflict of interest (COI) occurs when an individual or organization is involved in multiple interests, one of which could possibly corrupt the motivation for an act in the other.

Being as your a member of Test Alliance, which may or may not be loosely affiliated with or without Goonswarm, it'd be cause for controversy if a CCP Developer had received a metric ****-ton of beer PLEX and then suddenly started working on a feature or gave in-game items that may or may not sway the balance in one direction or another.

Back in 2006 a developer (you can look this up) had given Band of Brothers BPO's. Huge scandal that shifted the game balance by a debatable degree, and I say that because some might think that: Skill > Assets. Or vice versa.

Thereby, anything that a Dev would do would be looked at with scrutiny and it would cause more problems than necessary.

In conclusion, if you would like to thank a Dev, best option would be to make a thread in General Discussion with a picture of a giant stripper (work-safe of course) holding up a sign that says "THANK YOU CCP". Just, make sure you don't have "CCCP" otherwise you're thanking the soviet union lol.

Man, way to overthink it. It's not a channel for bribery (it'd be much too well monitored. If I wanted to just give the guy money to defect, I'd probably do that in a secretive manner. CCP does have an internal affairs division, IIRC).

Maybe I'll just wait for fanfest, travel there, and buy him a beer in person (assuming he lives in iceland) >.>

The dev in question went out of his way to help out the community of Linux users that plays EVE, even though we're not officially supported.

If someone ingame had done me a favor like that, I'd send them ISK as a thank-you, but I really doubt that a CCP account needs isk :)

Not over-thinking it at all, it's a legit business practice that you see -anywhere-. Someone buying you dinner is considered conflict of interest if it's not directly business related and you're not part of CCP so; there you go.

I think it would cause problems internally at CCP. There are a lot of people executing there that we don't directly see the end result.

i.e the dishwashers and prep cooks feel resentful when the pretty waitresses don't share the tip with the kitchen (first job = dishwasher)

Thank CCP by paying for the game and getting your friends to play. The company grows, the hard workers excel and can get rich off of stock options :)

ONLY THE HARD.  ONLY THE STRONG.

p.s why not just contract a plex to the ccp person in question in the game and not make a big thing about it?

just because you can build a feature doesn't mean you should

As long as we can specify the dev it goes too I'm cool with that.

That way we can all pitch in to turn CCP Phantom into a raging alcoholic so he's too drunk to lock our pony threads.
