New dev blog: Introducing Racial Captain‘s Quarters

CCP t0rfifrans has stuff to show you in his latest dev blog. Namely, the three remaining Captain's Quarters that are about to go live on Singularity today, and will be on TQ later next month.

Well, yeah... that's pretty much it for complaints, for now...

Note - Torfi, now that the art assets are in place for developing 'modular' structures - please (seriously) - get your Devs to make a proper "Pod Room" - this nanite excuse is terrible, as is the stepladder solution.

Due to a lock of resources in the art department, CCP had to reuse the door from the Minmatar quarters. They felt, since all of the player base has probably turned off their CQ, it is the door they are most familiar with and did not want to introduce a new door for fear of inciting more riots and having more terroristic attacks against indestructible statues.

Sorry, I forgot, resources will be available to design new doors in 18 months.

The shading and lighting has been improved, and importantly, the spawn point has been updated so that you don’t have to walk 10 centimeters before being able to interact with your ship. You will also be facing your ship when you spawn.

All of those rooms were built using modular assets, so that the investment made in building the Captain’s Quarters will be capitalized on further when more environments get built. They have given us the start of a library of modules, which can be used to flesh out racially themed interiors for all sorts of interesting gameplay.

Note the word 'capitalized' ShockedBig smile

The video is pretty slick and I think pretty much every dev blog that talks about a new feature should have a video.

What if I want the Gallente mirror in the Caldari CQ? Is that what we're talking about and when can I do that?

Lovely new assests, and thankful for more help on ship inspirations at least, getting to know the insides is very helpful for making outsides.
