So lets say, you were gifted 300 million isk, but didnt have high skills, How would you invest the isk to set up a business for yourself / what would you train towards

Absolutely faction fit a ship and fly to Ostingele, you can make great ISK there

There should be a rather awesome pic here

Ostingle is heavy pvp lowsec.

Invest in the buy low, sell high. Choose what to buy and sell and where to do so wisely to avoid losing isk until you have enough time to properly get and fit proper ships. Train anything that helps with trading, and reduces trading costs. The wise investor can buy minerals, make stuff with them then sell the higher value produced goods.

To quote Lfod Shi

The ratting itself is PvE. Getting away with it is PvP.

Hang on to it for now and work on building up your core skills first. Research eve and a path that appeals to you will become apparent soon.

Depending on your skills and temperament there are many different ways to set up shop in EVE:

  • Buy a mining vessel and mine minerals (the price is really good on those now)
  • Fit a nice mission ship and do missions.
  • Buy some blueprints, research them to a good ME / PE level and build modules or ships to sell.
  • Play the market, buy and resell at higher price.
  • Play the contracts market, find good deals and auctions and resell at higher price.
  • Etc, Etc, Etc

This is a good place to get ideas: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/How_to_earn_ISK

If I were to give serious advice?

Train for BS -> L4 mish. (easy reliable ISK, focus on blitzing. No loot, and pick your LP store wisely)
Train lvl 5 in a BS, preferably crosstrain gallente for uber thanny and uber vindi
As soon as you can get in a thanny start running L5, this will easily fund a PvP habit with a taste for ludicrously pimped ships (Hangers full bru)

You'll be able to run L5's as a neutral, but will require a bit of vigilance on the part of scanning. Much easier to join a PvP corp around the systems your l5 agent is at.

Amarr can be a good race, but I find they are a bit confining in PvE/PvP due to fairly restrictive slot layout and middle of the line dps. But keep in mind that I'm in lowsec, and doctrine is a bit different to null, things work here that don't out there and vice-versa.

Of course there's always the abaddon, or probably better would be a Navy Geddon, either would be within your funds and a good 0SP upgrade to the apoc you have. I would be dicey on doing that without T2 weaponry though

Long term archon is great for missions if you're new to L5's and also is fantastic small gang support.

If you're looking at being a combat oriented player, with a good PvP activity I really can't overstress crosstraining into minmatar BS to lvl 4, then Gal BS to 4/5 (depending on rush to thanny), then large T2 hybrids, then large T2 proj (train proj first if you plan on going into null), then finally minm BS 5.

Fit BC5 in there somewhere and you have a well balanced combat char, suited for almost any small gang, solo, or fleet situation, with the use of probably the 2 best faction ships in game, one's a BS with 2.1k dps (on a cheap fit) the other one warps like a BC and goes 3km/s :p

Thanny will easily make 250+m/h if you were to take it into L5's

The apoc is actually a great lv 4 mission ship if fit properly actually used to rat in null with it till I flew the tengu. And in many ways Copine is right cross training is never a bad idea though in my oppinion is stressing gallante to much. Your original question though is how to invest the Isk you currently have. Aron had a good point though he kinda gave you a list of options, the real thing is where do you wanna go in eve? Are you looking to pvp, mine, manufacture, grind missions, run incursions. Figure out where you wanna go then your method is more obvious. Also it is never bad to save the is after all some of the best missioning ships are over a bil nightmare, carriers, vindi, marauders.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

Mmmmh, in nullsec gallente I'm guessing is fairly worthless still.
Most ships are still pretty meh as well even in lowsec, but a few select ships (astarte, thanny, vindi, mach, proteus, and to a lesser extent navy mega) make it well worth training up. At least imo

My perspective is a guy who has has amarr/minm T2 guns/BS5, plus all subcap T2 for like the last 3 years, just got gal BS4 and T2 hybrids done for crucible, and I gotta say I regret not training it earlier.

Not saying gal > everything, but the key to successful and fun PvP is having a variety of ships suited to different roles, and some gal ships do things that other ships just can't.

As to OP, yeh it really does depend what you wanna do. If you aren't into combat at all, disregard everything I've said haha

Don't get me wrong I have a great appreciation for gallante I will admitt that it my last race to finish maxing out. But what I was trying to impress upon the point that there are great ships of all races should one get the skills up to properly fly them. As you said though in pvp there are more useful ships depending where you fly, who you fly with, and the ships the FC calls for. This instance though he is looking where to spend his Isk, he still needs to figure out a goal or direction.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

+1 on this. Don't rush into it; if 300m ISK seems like a lot you need to find your own feet first and the direction that you will enjoy making money in the most.

I'd spend it on implants. On a new character SP is a far worse impediment than lack of ISK.

I'd throw it in the pile with the rest of my isk and continue to plex my accounts without lifting a finger.

If I was a noob i'd train for a drake or something and do missions, then train for a tengu, then do missions, then join a 0.0 corp, then do hubs then be uber rich amirite?

I would agree with buying a Navy Geddon, I own one and its very good. However you will need t2 guns and t2 Heavy drones/sentry drones for it to work to its best. Stick with your Apoc for now until you get those skills

Trade skills. Start placing buy orders for things at reasonable prices. When they come in, pick them up and put them up for sale at a trade hub for profit.

Whether or not you win the game matters not.  It's if you bought it.
