Raven, Drake (slow, but possible), Navy Scorpion, Navy Raven and your best bet: A mission Tengu.

Besides the point that Tengus are expensive, they have many advantages over the caldri battleship lineup, You can train fast for them, you can do high damage in a fast ship and can get very tanky.

I still would suggest a Raven first, except you have corp support, than go directly for the Tengu by all means. At least if you want to stick with Caldari. Crosstraining for a mael/mach or some lasers boats is still not unreasonable ;-)

how about this one?

Now seriously - go for the raven, then the caldari navy version of it .....or the tengu, if you have / get enough ISK together.

Though it takes longer training time I like the Nighthawk over the Tengu. It costs a fraction compared to a tengu and isn't so easily ganked.

For missions I actually agree. The Nighthawk is in no way superior to the Tengu on paper but flying it in Serp and Gur missions makes me happy.

However, the Tengu is far and away better for other things, so it's really hard for me to recommend anyone else train CSs.

Any BS works. Drake can tank it, but takes too long to spank it Big smile. Tengu gives you the best combination of gank/tank. Golem for OMGWTFLOLITDIED + loot/salvage as you go.

A fraction of the price? Assuming you use the same modules on both (i.e. an active tank, max gank setup,) according to pyfa: Tengu - 1.3B isk. Nighthawk - 1.1B isk.

Jita sell prices for a Tengu hull + subsystems: 584M isk. Nighthawk hull: 243M isk.

Not sure that I would call a 250M difference significant given the Tengu's better performance and faster training.

Can? Yes, is it all that good? Nope, it really lacks the range to be truly competitive with the battleships.

The difference is you do not need faction gear on the nighthawk to achieve a superior tank to a faction fitted tengu, and if the nighthawk gets webbed it really doesnt care, while the tengu becomes highly vulnerable if webbed.

Nice list, but you should factor in the price element....

Tengu only performs that well with faction and deadspace mods...

You can have a full T2 Nighthawk (including rigs) for about 450M.

Thus why it is my ship of choice, despite being more skill intensive and not performing as well as a Tengu... I'm not lacking in skills, but in playtime to make the cash for the shinies Blink

It's down to a matter of balance and personal preference in the end!

Sure a NH will get a nice cheap tank and is a good ship for PvE. I have Command ship V aswell and use it in 0.0, but it takes ages to skill those at the Moment.

Since CCP decided to get rid of some requirements soon™, the NH will be a viable option for PvE, even for newer players with less than 30 mil SP.

Wish people would stop saying a tengu is vulnerable when webbed, the standard mission tengu has no problem being webbed, double and tripple webbed. Sure your shields will drop down but with the ease you can kill webbers you are soon moving again and can recover.

Sure, if you use the same mods...

But fitting T2 only makes the Nighthawk perfectly viable for any L4, while the Tengu needs the faction and deadspace mods to perform properly.
