Double Click to Approach

CCP, can we please get an option to disable this? It is entirely too easy to accidentally double click an object on your overview while quickly locking up targets. This is catastrophic in a ship that relies on careful range management in a fast moving fight. I have lost more nano/skirmish boats because of this than to my bad piloting, falcon, accidental burn out, and suddenly blob combined.

/rant

Edit: also it is buggy and will cause you to approach even if you do not **** up on just a single click some times...

Not only that, we need a way to set direction manually without doubling clickong on empty space. There is lots of non empty space.

Maybe a shortcut? Hold down shift click to set direction?

Or a navigation cube where you can set direction, then press a confirm button to change direction?

I've wanted an option to reassign the double click functionality to another shortcut. We already have a shortcut for approach.

This is the definition of bad piloting...

Although it certainly is bad, I meant things more along the lines of bad decision making or not knowing how to manually fly and or position.

Double click on over view is just bad UI design and it will happen to you if you fly enough.

No, it's bad design. As he said it sometimes seems to register single clicks as double clicks.

It would be fanatic if we could reassign things like approach. My mouse has six buttons, and it would make my day a lot better to able to, say, target with double-clicking LMB and assign approach to one of the buttons on the side of the mouse.

Edit: Especially considering LMB already has a primary function, which makes it even easier to accidentally approach.

Cockpit/pod view + joystick support... oh. I would probably quit RL and never leave a Rifter. :droool:

This game needs better manual flight controls if for no other reason than the flight AI is terrible. If the ship can't navigate to a position without flying straight into a rock and bouncing, then we should have the ability to manually pilot the ship without double-clicking all over the frakking place.

Would be nice if we could use the tactical overlay to set direction. I'm thinking something similar to Homeworld's disc, where you'd choose a direction and vertical angle. It would rule out accidental/confused clicks. (don't take away the double-click in space, though, that's useful for quick adjustments).

+1000. It freaks the **** out of me every time that the initial orbit I've set breaks due to some clickety click on the HUD and the ship is flying to somewhere unknown.

We already have WASD for the character in the CQ: set speed, turn left W, turn right D, up S and dive W, all done.

Maybe we can get the double click and right click approach option for the avatar in the CQ too? lol.

I not only manage to break my aligns by double clicking on stuff on the overview while targeting, i also manage to mess up my directions while rotating the camera..
Seems like the "double-click align-to" function was not bound on mousebutton-down but on the release event..
Try it yourself, click and hold, rotate the camera for as long as you like, release the button and click once again, counts as double click and changes your course.

Makes you even go out of pos shields while rallying a fleet by just looking around, if you are not careful.

Nearly each time I want to turn the camera I fly in this direction.
When I am in a BS it makes me cry.

Ability to change this would be awesome.

I imagine it was only recently changed, because i dont remember flying to another random direction anytime i try to rotate my view in the past..
