FYI - Upgrade Tommorrow - Train a Long Skill

For those new people who haven't been through this before - it's a good idea to put a long skill in the Training Queue before any upgrade. You never know what's going to happen ... so if something does go wrong and you can't log in for several days ... at least you won't lose any training time while they sort it out.

For me ... I've come to set a skill training for about 10 days. That's usually over kill as things usually aren't that fouled up but I've always got some long term skills I want to work on - and this is a good time to do it.

The problem is - while things may not be that fouled up for most people - it doesn't mean they won't be fouled up for YOU.

Every update you can go to the EVE Information Portal and check the Issues and Feedback threads CCP posts for the upgrade. If you follow these threads, there's always someone in there screaming bloody murder because things are all fouled up for THEM.

If the tempest passes in a tea pot and doesn't effect many people - if you want you can just change your skill back to what you were working on - then work on that long skill some more next upgrade.

If you're doing something like PI - getting all your factories going is a good idea too.

How do you extend the amount of time you can train for?

He says "You've already had breakfast." I ask "But what about second breakfast?"

You don't. It's always 24 hour skill queue.

What Toshiro is saying is to queue up a single long skill that can take a few days.

Yes. You have 24 hours in which to START a skill - however long the skill may take to train. As long as the skill starts within the 24 hour limit you're all right.

Here - one thing you can do - is to start a few short skills that all take less than 24 hours - ending with a long one that may last several days. As long as you've got one minute left - you can start a new skill - even if that skill will run for weeks.

The other limit is on he number of skills you can start within 24 hours. I forget what it is exactly but its several dozen. The only time this becomes a factor is if you buy several dozen skills, many of which may have a Level I time of less than an hour and try to start them all. New players seldom have this problem as they usually don't have enough money to buy that many skills all at once but veteran players starting a new character might run into it.

Meh, this is just an escalation to Inferno. I'm going to trust CCP not to screw it up, given their perfect track record of not screwing Eve up on patch day Bear

Even knowing CCP's record with latest major patches I would still put that long skill in queue.

We are talking about a code that's never been run on live server. There is number of things that can go wrong even if code worked fine in test environment.

Thank you for the tip. I lined up a few days just in case. This is my first upgrade.
