PvP Nightmare...does it ever make sense?

So I <3 PvP and I <3 the Sansha line of ships, purely for the shields and spikes and laz0rz...because we're in space.

I have found the Phantasm and the Succubus to be underwhelming, but still fun to look at and pew pew in.

I'm ready to make an expensive mistake and take the Nightmare into PvP...but I really can't figure out a fit that makes me happy. So I figured I would let the forums vomit all over me and see if anything good came of it.

I would likely use it in small groups or solo in low sec (always with scouts, sometimes with logi). So far all it can really offer me is lovely laz0r dps and a good enough tank to handle gate guns...is that all this ship can really do for pew pew? The Bhaal, Vindi, & mach each have their own oh so special places in shiny PvP...but I want me a NIGHTMARE!

...I'm trying to find a reason or a niche to shove the Nightmare into in PvP...is there anything this baby can excel at or should I just climb on the Bhaal/Vindi/Mach bandwagon...help?

All of the pirate BS's have a "trick" to them that makes them excel at certain things. The Bhaal is a neuting/long range webbing beast. The Vindi does the "get in face, web you so you can't move and melt you" trick. The Mach has high maneuverability with BS tank and guns. The Nightmare, it smacks the living crap out of anything in range of its long range (VERY long range with Tachs). Unfortunatley, the Nightmare's "trick" doesn't really make it outstanding in PVP. It WILL work in PVP, but it doesn't have any bonuses that make it truely outstanding.

FWIW, at least it doesn't have the Rattlesnake's problem of only having the trick of an epically large tank.

Midrange sniping. Unfortunantly you need recons to help out, and I wouldnt use a faction BS without logi anyway. Still use pulses, just use scorch.

IMO the bhaal is probably a better choice, but the nightmare can still be a don of pvp, just consider it a souped up, if not squishier, abaddon.

it's not horrible but most other ships in the same price range perform better. take the mach for example. similar dps, similar range but more agile, selectable damage types and can still shoot when capped out.

I should buy an Ishtar.

If you really feel like losing some isk, then take out an active tanked nightmare solo pvping. Packs an extremely large tank, some good dps, but its pretty expensive. Fly it like a maelstrom.

Mega pulse x4 / heavy neut / Large smartbomb

XL booster, point, web, SBA, invuln, cap booster (last slot get another web, another sba, another invuln or another cap booster, preference based)

dcu, 3 heat sink, 1 te

Pimp to taste

Fly with a tengu link alt, crystals and a blue pill, that should knock out a good amount of isk from your hands. Its got the advantage to look like a poor lost carebear but it also attracks lots of people willing to get on the killmail

Not sure if other people are trolling or just dumb...
Go look up DHB Wildcat's burn eve videos for an example of how 'bad' a nightmare is for PVP.

this.

flying a BS solo anywhere will simply get you drowned in AC fire of swarms of rifters comming for the killmail.
or swarms of dual nuet hurricanes. heck. PEOPLE WILL DROP A FLEET OF CAPITALS ON YO ASS JUST FOR A FACTION BS KM.

moral of the story.
battleships are not meant for soloing, they are meant for fleet work.
nightmares are good for PVE, for PVP you are better off flying a drake that can shoot frigates.

I would'nt be seen in a Draek if I can help it but if it can shoot Taranis's or Crows out of its launchers at a reasonable rof ... even I would be flying them 0_o

^this

On the succubus / phantasm, I've been considering using them with tracking disruptors which goes well with the roleplay of sansha. Might work...

Emperor Ryan - Thanks for the active fit.

Whoever keeps saying that BSs are not for solo...I know...relax buddies I know how to pew pew, "solo" in eve means 3 alts for scouting 3 alts for boosting and 1 for a falcon Roll...any such shiny BS would rarely come out, unless it was in a fun fleet or I was 99% sure of an "even fight"...and eventually I would get hot dropped and murdered and lose a lot of ISK...but oh well its just space money.

I think I have decided that for the level of pimp I would need to make the Nightmare shine I would rather have 4 fit Navy Apocs and maybe 3-4 phantasms that are completely under-powered but look super cool :D

Apart from doing 25% more base DPS, usually being slightly faster (no plates or trimarks), having 2 utility slots, and enjoying a 37.5% tracking bonus, having CPU and PG to spare, 40% higher sensor strength, better lock range, faster lock speed, and having about 25 or 30% more base EHP, yeah it's a plain old Apoc Roll

Begin to experiment with phantasms on the test server.

I'm sure you can find a viable use for it.

How do you think people found out how to fly all the FOTM ships we have now?

Just because nobody can fly/fit the phantasm right now... doesn't mean you can't find a way yourself.

On a side note, the succubus is a very bad ship and will be owned by almost any ship.
