If you are salvaging a mission in .8 and below space - what i would term "belt rats" can come along to visit you. These are the same rats you would see in the belts ... they're just coming by to visit you in what had been your mission space.

Belt rats in mission space will spawn over time, especially when you are mining. The spawn appears to be triggered by the start of a mining cycle.

Whether you are salvaging in a Noctis or Catalyst, you are still better off bookmarking the wrecks and returning to them after the mission is handed in. The Noctis is by far the better ship for the job, due to tractor range, salvager cycle speed and the capacitor available to keep the tractors and salvagers running without cap rechargers.

Apologies if what I meant to say was in one of my edits rather than my original post.

First - yes - even without the drone(s) - the Noctis is a vastly better salvager than a destroyer. I was just talking about the Catalyst being the best of the destroyers because of the drone. I probably should have said "I prefer the Catalyst - because of it's drone" as each of the destroyers has different characteristics and someone else may prefer another one. I've used all the destroyers as salvagers and am just frustrated when I use the others and I get attacked by belt rats. Here it depends on how bad the rats are. I can tank them sometimes but then my Salvaging destroyers don't have much of a tank - so I often have to warp out - come back with some weapons - kill the rats and then resume salvaging.

As to salvaging after the mission space has gone away - yes - if all you want to do is salvage - then turning in the mission, letting the space go away - and THEN salvaging is better as you won't have to worry about things like acceleration gates and warping in at the beacon. That just doesn't work so well if you're going to mine it. The rocks will last until down time but the wrecks are going away in two hours ... so it's better to salvage them right away. It actually does depend on how many rocks there are ... if there aren't a lot ... I guess you could mine first and then salvage but I prefer to get the salvaging out of the way. I usually get my miners started, then use one of the guys who's going to be a hauler to get the salvaging done before he turns to his hauling duties.

As to rats showing up in wreck fields where the mission space has gone away ... I could well be wrong about that.

If so - then most of the people running missions - may not be aware that there are circumstances where those belt rats will show up. Given that the preponderance of EVE players are mission runners - if they aren't being bothered by these belt rats - that would help explain why CCP doesn't seem interested in putting drones on the Noctis.

So, I acquired the Noctis, and I became somewhat surprised to see that I couldn't mount my weapons on it. I asked in the rookie chat and I was told that it wasn't possible. 8 high slots and no weapons? I don't mean to build a battleship but I would like some way of defending myself.

The only thing I can do if attacked by any sort of enemy is to run away?

I didn't read any advice given in the previous posts, so here is mine:

1. Only use Noctis after you have cleared the mission rats, towers, and batteries (missile, etc.)

2. Fit your Noctis with 4 x tractor beams and 4 x salvagers. (high slots).

3. Depending on your skills, you can lock a mx. of 10 targets.

This ship is very efficient for loot / salvage operations. Tractor range is about 79KM (at max level). Use hot keys to open cargo and; select all; and then drag cargo to your hold. click on your salvagers next, and then cycle off your tractors and start bringing in next 4 wrecks. whilke those wrecks are coming into range, lock target on next 4 wrecks.

Note.... If you are running Angel Extravaganza (4 rooms). Kill, loot and Salvage each room one-by-one. If you just clear all 4 rooms first (solo), you will find that the first room's wrecks will begin to "pop", by the time you get there with your Noctis. Wrecks and cargo containers have a 2 hour timer, from the moment you popped them. Angel Extra takes about 2 hours to clear it solo.

Range is 80km for "Small Tractor Beam I" with max skill level (ORE Industrial level 5).

But if that is not enough, you can use new module "Small Tractor Beam II" and get 96 km range. Big smile

(It does use a bit more CPU, but I don't have my Noctis near so I didn't check if that might be problem or not.)

Or you just use the "Loot all" button when opening a wreck, no need to select, open your cargo and drag.

3 clicks and the stuff is yours:

1.) Select wreck
2.) Click open cargo of wreck
3.) Click loot all.
