Hi gang.

As a Caldari pilot, as always my missile skills far out weigh my gunnery skills, but i can have T2 rail/blasters in 9 mins, and im just wondering, for a budding frig/ceptor pilot, who's very active in nullsec pvp, which is best? harpy (rails) or blarpy(Blasters)

i know as always, my fitting will have to change due to fleet types, LR - SR, but as in general, i'm looking into whats best for 1v1s, 1v2~s..... and the always present 1v OMGWTFGATECAMPWAITFORBACKUPS.

*Edit* i'd rather not get things like "derp derp get Enyo or wolf w/e :)

The Blarpy works fine as long as there's someone there to chase down the nano ships for you to punch them. If you're out soloing, there's a very real chance you're gonna die to the first kitey thing that finds you. The best I've ever done with a Blarpy was tank 2 SFI, Vexor Navy, Ferox, and a Claw at close range.

If you want to see how the Blarpy works out in practice, I have several videos up from my time in Amamake - though Amamake Fun IV is slightly too long to fit on youtube and I've been working too much to re-edit it. It isn't hosted anywhere right now.

Look up Merin's Harpy of Doom - I hear good things about it and now its both faster (extra low) and tankier (resist bonus).

Basically what Liang said. Check out Pitt Bull's Harpy fit on battleclinic. It was a prebuff fit but it will only work better now.

Kiting with 75mm rails can be a very deadly think in a harpy.

i must say, after looking at both fits, i can say they're both pretty much identical, and looking at the Pitt Bull fit in Battle Clinic, the sheer huge amounts of +1s its got, can safely say, i'll be trying out rails first. Smile

Liang knows what he is talking about with the Blarpy. It is probably the best AF right now.

Both Blarpy and rail Harpy are good. I've got a friend who swears by his rail Harpy fit; I'll poke him with this thread.

Let's face it, there was no chance of anyone getting here before Liang.

Can't say I've actually bothered looking into rails much, really like a Blarpy though, I even stole Liangs fit Bear

I've always been a fan of the rail harpy.

Faction MWD isn't strictly necessary; just reduces the risk of capping yourself out in engagements which require running the MWD consistently.

Also, you can drop the polycarbs for damage rigs, though this requires dropping the MSE II for a meta MSE.

With the polycarbs it's actually really agile, though the top speed makes engaging something like a combat ceptor a bad idea™. If you're careful you'll murder anything with an AB. It's also rather good in the sense that it's resistant to blob bait (unlike the blarpy which isn't going anywhere once tackled).

In a straight 1v1 with something like a blaster enyo is something you want to avoid, of course.

Like most Caldari ships, though, it's better in gangs. The smaller DPS is mitigated by the ability to quickly apply that DPS to subsequent targets. A long point is a good complement to frigate gangs which often don't have them, and you're extremely good at holding down larger ships. It can murder pretty much any destroyer fit imaginable, it's outside of medium neut range, outside of web range, and it has enough tank that the light drones will just tickle.

A big problem with the Blarpy is that while it will win almost any frigate brawl within scram range, it's a brick. 46 sig and a mediocre top speed mean that you won't be able to break larger ships' tracking nearly as easily..And if you aren't AB fit, almost anything you engage will be able to escape. Conversely, as I mentioned above, it absolutely cannot escape from anything. If you see local spike you pretty much just sit back and take it.

EDIT: sorry for random missing characters. I loaded a saved draft and the forum software is apparently terrible.

Prior to my computer crapping out I used a dual web rail harpy that I had some good success with. It can be hairy against some frigates but its brilliant fun. The Blarpy is a very good ship though.

If you are set on Caldari frigates can I recommend rocket boats (Hawk and Hookbill) both are brilliant in 0.0 thanks to the 5 mids and relatively long range of rockets. I have used dual prop fits in 0.0 and you get some nice dps and a lot of versatility for running camps and helping to dictate range on a lot of frigates thanks to no being pigeonholed to MWD or AB only.
