Hello Sexy people

I have a few minor questions regarding lowsec pew pew

1. If i am at a gate and a minus ten pirate jumps in can i shoot him without the gate guns shooting me.

(i) What sec status is the highest it can be without the gate guns shooting at me.

2. Do the rules for the question above also apply to stations

3. If i start shooting a decent gentlemen with excellent sec status and the guns open up on me and i jump back into highsec. Can i just fly to a safespot and wait it out or will concord come for me?

dumb questions i know but ive decided to become what ive always wanted to be which is a lowsec pain in the arse.

thanks for your answers

This is a list of targets that you can shoot without getting a CONCORD response in high-sec (0.5+ security rating systems).

Attacking another player that is in your player corporation.
Attacking the property (wrecks etc) of another player in your player corporation.
Attacking a war target.
Attacking a player that is flashy red in your overview (if you are using the default overview settings)
Attacking a member of the opposing militia if you are part of Factional Warfare

(i) What sec status is the highest it can be without the gate guns shooting at me.

2. Do the rules for the question above also apply to stations

Attacking an innocent

When Player A attacks Player B who is considered innocent towards Player A, Player A gets aggression flagged towards everyone.
Aiding a player who is aggression flagged towards everyone

When Player A aids Player B who is aggression flagged towards everyone, Player A gets aggression flagged towards everyone.

If Player B's ship is destroyed without them retaliating to the attack (Offensive acts on Player A's ship in an attempt to defend themselves) then Player B will gain Kill Rights on Player A. Kill Rights last for 30 days and permit Player B to attack Player A at anytime without getting criminally flagged. Other aggression laws still apply.
Aiding an outlaw

When Player A aids Player B who has security status of -5.0 or lower, Player A gets aggression flagged towards everyone.
Attacking an outlaw who is a member of a player corporation

When Player A attacks Player B who has security status of -5.0 or lower, Player A gets aggression flagged to Player B personally but not his corporation.
Aiding a player whose corporation is at war

When Player A aids Player B whose corporation is at war with another corporation, Player A gets aggression flagged towards all players that are involved in warfare with Player B.
Aiding a player who attacks an outlaw

When Player A aids Player B who has initiated aggression towards Player C, who has security status of -5.0 or lower, Player A gets aggression flagged towards Player C.

3. If i start shooting a decent gentlemen with excellent sec status and the guns open up on me and i jump back into highsec. Can i just fly to a safespot and wait it out or will concord come for me?

REMEMBER: You must be online for the 15 minutes it takes for the aggression timer to count down. You can“t log out, wait out the timer, and then log in again. You can't use gates either.

One... WRONG... in low sec you can log out with aggression anytime you want but you will still be on scan and in space until the 15 min global timer runs out. And to answer the question he dident in this useless wall of text anytime someone is red flashey to you you can shoot them no matter where it is

and last they way you typed this i kinda think i need to say this... just because you have negative 10 sec status the gate guns dont just shoot you everywhere you have to have an aggression timer for committing a crime ...

anyways... just saying

Anyone with -5.0 security status or lower is Kill On Sight in all space and you can safely attack anywhere (low sec or high sec) without getting a criminal flag (i.e. The gateguns / CONCORD won't attack you and you won't lose sec).

The same rules apply to station guns.

If you jump in to High Sec with a criminal flag (aggression) not only the gateguns will shoot you, but also CONCORD. You will die. As a side note, jumping through any gate refreshes your aggression with the faction navy owning the gate (resets it to 15 minutes). The gateguns will continue to shoot you whilst you have a criminal flag or aggression countdown to the navy that owns the space.

Hope this helps.

I'm not certain as i'm still learning about the pew pew side of things, but as far as i understand it sec status has nothing to do with whether you can shoot them or not, the only time you can safely shoot another player at a gate without the guns blatting you is if they are A) in your corp, B) flashing red to you, meaning they have aggressed you in some way, or are at war with you (corp or faction).

If they are lower than -5.0 sec then they will be flashing red to you by default. You will not get aggression for shooting them, but if you engage first they can retaliate without being shot by Sentry guns.

ah, that's good to know, so what does it mean if they're static red to you and not in a war or aggressed?

I think by default static red means you (or your corp / alliance) has set bad standings to the other person (or their corp / alliance).

You can change all the defaults in your overview settings if desired.

Speaking of the default overview settings... they are pretty terrible. You should take the time to set them up correctly. Going through the process of configuring these settings will also help you understand the different states that a player can be in, and with a little bit of extra effort, what those states mean in terms of the consequences there are for interacting with pilots in those states.

Also, it is easy for us older players to use terms such as "flashy red" or just "red" without specifying which state we are actually referring to. Although some good advice may be given, it means nothing if the new player fails to understand that by flashy red you mean war target, or outlaw, or what ever state you happen to be talking about. For all you know, the players overview could be set to show corp members as flashy red. You just never know what options some one might have switched while trying to figure out the massive pile of menus in this game...

Edit: One last thing, I strongly recommend configuring which GCC, session change, and aggression timers are displayed. Once again, simply looking through the list of different timers will go along way towards helping you keep straight how each timer affects your ability to jump gates or dock, what happens to your ship if you log off, or how NPC entities will react to you. If you see a timer on the list you do not understand, then look it up or ask someone about it.
