Why waste our time with an empty blogpost?
All you've said is, "Torfi said something."

Why post a blog if it has no content?

Actually that pretty much sums this up rather nicely.

On the other hand this makes me to cancel the accounts.

Quite frankly looking at the player count graphs I would be very nervous CCP.

Over the past days and weeks, CCP has been doing extensive and intense introspection and revitalization. The result of this is a refocusing and reprioritization on a scale unheard of within our company.

Five days.. for a dev blog that CSM Member Seleene says CCP has already written up... and that we still haven't got yet..

I don't know what you all are thinking. Let me tell you what I am thinking..

A.) I want to enjoy a Space Based MMO game.
B.) I have played Eve Online for about four years. I wish to continue to play this game.
C.) Eve Online, however, is not all that much fun anymore.. though I am trying new things in-game.
D.) CCP pulling my leg and issuing Dev Blogs that essentially say, "Oh, just wait.. we're really going to improve this time, though we can't tell you or promise anything, or even actually saying anything tangible" is not new to CCP. Therefore, either "the extensive and intense introspection and revitalization" has failed at this point or they never took place with any seriousness to begin with.
E.) I worked out at the gym last night and had more fun than I have had in Eve Online for a long, long time. Plus, it's healthier.
F.) I only have $15-20 US dollars to spend on gaming entertainment.
G.) Why are they making World of Darkness.. the "Vampire" fad is almost done and maybe has two years left on it. If they add zombies as a player character.. maybe five more years tops?

So, let me sum up..

Why am I paying $15 dollars a month, for a game that isn't fun, to a company who actually seems RESISTANT to improving the game, and quite possibly is upset that players are mad about them ignoring their cash-cow game?

CCP, PLEASE GIVE ME A REASON TO STAY!

Well I'm not CCP, but I would encourage everyone to bear the storm by trying something new (some of you have) with an open mind! Just a few more days and we'll know what their stance is for sure.

I just came back from a break and possibly I've never had so much fun in EVE before, than I'm now having with Incursions. I meet new people everyday, I'm not agonizing about losing my ship all the time like in Alliance PvP and I'm making decent ISK.

So for a few days, let's break the form. This is not the first crisis for EVE and reading these forums all the time with a lot of negative posting isn't going to make anyone feel better about the game. I for one think EVE is still a great game and as I've said before it just needs to get back on track. I'm sure CCP can do that.

NO! And this and this is why not. We have been waiting for a response, and the response was a total communications failure, again, as the 24th of June when Zulu made alot of players angry with his wording in a blog. That's about 3 months ago... Now he's at it again, and this time he has NO goodwill to back him.

So, I'm gonna' accept CCPs hype, after waiting 3 months? I'm going to accept another string of promises from CCP, that they'll never make good on? I'm gonna' accept this, with the knowledge of CCP "watching what I do, not what I say"? NO! CCP has to act, CCP has to DO, not just blurt out another string of promises...

This is NOT ok, this is yet ANOTHER communications failure. CCP did not listen last time, they did not learn. And you believe them THIS time? Why? Was has changed? They made more shiny-stuff and announced it - they did not fix spaceships, as the CSM crowdsourcing attempt suggested - you know, the players' opinions? How is that listening to the players?

tl;dr - I waited 3 months for CCP to do something. They released a TV-set for the CQ instead of fixing stuff they left broken and told me to keep my eyes peeled? No... *sigh* - stop talking CCP, DO something!

It would not surprise me if CCP Zulu turned out to be a giant icelandic troll who just tried to trolloll the entire eve community.

But seriously bring back previous functionality.

When are they actually going to get a clue that the same "Oh, it's coming, trust us" does nothing but aggravate everybody who knows just how good CCP is at keeping promises?

1. Never say never
2. It was three months ago, for a game as complex with as many interlocking systems as EVE, you can't just suddenly go shboowoop, wambobambo, here's brand new **** you wanted right here right now. You have two options: A. Completely kill all projects and refocus all employees (and lose all the development time you've put into those things, leaving features rotting because of the refocus) or B. Finish up the immediate projects that were on the table, release them, and then continue the focus already planned (FiS, 0.0 expansion this winter) forward with a larger commitment of resources than originally planned.

CCP is taking route B, which is a smart, not ******** move, and will provide a more streamlined experience for players with as smooth of a transition for the company as possible.

Also, would you rather they stay completely silent instead of at least saying, "hey guys, we're working on it."

Furthermore, the CQ screen wasn't a new feature, they're just telling everyone how to use an exploit discovered by players correctly. Which smacks of the CCP of old which would help players do awesome stuff, as opposed to the CCP of the past year or two which would have plugged that hole without so much as a hop skip and a doo da.

Yeah, EVE has had some trials and tribulations the last few months, and I admit, I wasn't particularly impressed with the released CQ/Incarna for the summer, I was also amongst those pretty pissed off about those dev blogs and the pants-on-head ******** NEX pricing. But I'd like to think that CCP did go, "f*ck, this is bad, we should reorient and make our customers happy," and are going about this with at least half a brain.

As such, I can hope that there will be some mindblowingly nice fixes and iterations and improvements and maybe a new feature or two. But really, I'm more excited for the crowdsourced list of fixes *cough POS update cough* than new content. But that's just me.

Tl;dr - Change takes time when you're programming for the most complex MMO on the market, give 'em the benefit of the doubt, I didn't like Incarna/blogs either, please make my spaceship game moar awesomer soonish.

Wait and see? Like... Uhmmm...

  • Factional Warfare. Released, and abandoned rotting when iteration would have prevented loss of dev time.

  • PI. Released, iterated once and abandoned rotting when further iteration would have prevented loss of dev time.

  • POSes. Released, and abandoned rotting when iteration would have prevented loss of dev time.

  • Dominion sov mechanics. Released, and abandoned rotting when iteration would have prevented loss of dev time.

  • Bounty system. Released, and abandoned rotting when iteration would have prevented loss of dev time.

I'm sure you get the drift.

And guess what? Incarna is a great candidate to continue the winning streak. Released, and probably going the way of all other half-finished features. Which is a shame per se, but even more considering how much development time ("18 months", do you remember?) was poured into it.

Wait and see?

CCP, after past year Summer of Rage and this year Summer Riots was ALREADY on parole.

When you're on parole, you already ran out of trust and goodwill, and need to show if you got what it takes. The last thing that would benefit your case is asking for more trust and goodwill.

CCP is the guy in probation that pisses on cop's feet with snickering and derogatory comments.

Myself? When I read:

'Over the past days and weeks, CCP has been doing extensive and intense introspection and revitalization. The result of this is a refocusing and reprioritization on a scale unheard of within our company.'

And:

'We have decided, to focus our collective efforts on the areas you have asked us to focus on.'

I almost cried with relief. Really. Why? In all honesty, I have not logged into the game in almost a month now. The fact is that for me, the game's lost a lot of it's fun. 0.0 which has been my home almost since I started playing is totally ****ed now. Supers killed it. It is broken and now needs a complete makeover to become fun again for the average Pod Pilot. In order to play in 0.0 now, there is simply no valid option other than to be some alliance's ***** (pardon the language.)

For over a year there has mostly been negativity in the forums, largely because CCP has chosen to focus it's energies on other games and on a patch (Incarna) that simply feels to me like a band aid solution, something to point to as new and wonderful in hopes of drawing huge numbers of players to the game.

The simple fact is that EVE will always be a niche game. It will never compete for subscription numbers with the WOWs out there that cater to simplicity and mediocrity. EVE is too different, too complex, and too challenging to learn for most people. That's fine. Simply focus on improving the core game, the UI, and player satisfaction, and the game will continue to grow and remain healthy.

Keep EVE's players always looking forward with excitement and expectation and they will be your best recruiting tool.

Sadly, however, the core of EVE has suffered from inattention to broken and/or incomplete game mechanics/features for a painfully long time now. I was starting to get the strong feeling that CCP was going to let EVE simply die out through inattention while it focused it's energies on new games.

For months and months I looked to the forums for any breath of hope that the many issues in EVE that need attention were being worked on. In vain. For the longest time it's been painful watching the hate posts from irate players and the (hurt?) silence from CCP. Unhealthy.

A game simply cannot last long term with this level of animosity between it's players and Owners. Not only that, but the Devs are caught in the middle here. They are not the policy makers, and they can hardly do their best work when they don't feel appreciated.

When Arnar posts that 'CCP has been doing extensive and intense introspection', I believe it. They have been forced due to the events of the last few months to realize that what the players have been repeating over and over, that the game mechanics/features NEED to be worked on, is actually critical to the long term health of the game.

So yes, this time I do believe CCP when they say they are going to work on these issues. It also gives me hope that I will again be able to look forward to playing EVE with excitement and expectation.

The original blog for this thread is now one week old. Watching this space shows lots of comments, many well thought out, many passionate, all about how we feel CCP is going to perform.

However, nothing from CCP themselves. C'mon guys, throw us a bone here. We're starving for something, something to show us where you are headed now, what your newly focused chi is being directed at. I admit that changing focus can mean that having something 'working' to give to us can take a while but you should be able to say something. Besides calling us rabble...some of us happen to be waiting without giving a knee-jerk reaction. Perhaps you could come out with something to whet our appetites?

The longer the silence continues, the more you sound like so many salesmen and politicians...make some promises that sound great but then go strangely silent when we want a little more. Then you hear they are making different promises to different people and have forgotten all about you.

I may not like you or your point of view but you have a right to voice it.

The devs are waiting on the Carbon IO fix for the mac.

Until that gets fixed we will not see any new features on TQ. Must be as frustrating for them as for us. There is a masstest to battle test this issue to night all you Mac heads come out and help. And send your crash reports in so they can track down the issue.

One week. Still watching this space.

Hm. Maybe (being positive here) CCP is actually trying to hold true to their promise, and that is why we haven't heard any news. They don't want to say anything until it's set in stone?

Or they're just scared to say anything because they know no matter what it is, people will nitpick it to death and shoot it down.
Or... they just don't give a frack anymore, and they'll come out in a week or two with "Look! We changed the coding on station container icons!"

Frankly I don't care what they fix, as long as the fix something significant (and not some minor bug fixed touted as the best thing since sliced bread), because it'd show they actually are committed.

Imagine if they went back to all the past features they've abandoned (As Katrina Beckers listed; Faction Warfare, PI, POS, Sov, bounties... and the terrible drone UI and UI usability in general...)and fixed them with the winter expansion. People would be ecstatic. Faith would be restored.

But at this point, whatever the winter expansion is, I'm sure it's already set in stone. While it would be cool to see stations opened up instead of just CQ, I think we'd all much rather see resources devoted to fixing what we already have. But hell, I'm just beating a dead horse here. Sad

Anyway. One week down. How much longer to go before we hear something?

*Edit*
And is it just me or are bitter devs bitter? It's like the WoW forums up in here...
The "Been pushed too hard for too long" sort of bitterness. Ironically, I think thats what a lot of the players feel as well. Sad times.
