you have to scan for them correct, as in anomaly with probes. or do you have to do the sites that are easy to find and get a escalation

Cosmic Anomalies can be found with either the ship's onboard scanner or with probes and a probe launcher.
DED and unrated complexes are Cosmic Signatures and can only be found with probes.
Unrated complexes have the chance to escalate, DED ones do not.

The question here is which is the greater adventure... navigating Google to learn about exploration, or actually doing exploration?

Asking here and doing exploration after you have a few answers. I think that is why they call it Missions and Complexes I could be wrong....
