Golem vs. Tengu?

What's everyone's opinion here? After reading about them, I have come to love both birds a ton. Just not sure which direction to go. I know the Marauders are getting some changes (buffs?) with Inferno. I also know that the Tengu is pretty badass.

So...opinions? Which to choose?

Where have they mentioned Marauder buffs?

I sold my Golem and wouldn't buy another. Its not that it does a bad job, its just that the Tengu is much more flexible. I can realistically do C1, C2, and C3 WHs in my Tengu where the Golem is problematic. Furthermore, its far easier to fit a Tengu into a carrier for transport.

I think if I were to buy another marauder, it'd probably be a Vargur or Paladin. Maybe a Kronos for PVP baiting.

Ed: Also, marauder changes? Details?

I'm an idiot, don't mind me.

Tengu.

No contest untill marauders&torps/cruises get fixed to this decade.

Havent heard about any buffs to marauders or even them being looked at. Someone must have been daydreaming.

The Golem is bad and here's why.

As Liang mentioned, Tengus are ridiculously versatile, though they aren't always the best ship for missions. Still, beats a Golem hand down if those are the choices and you can only have one.

If nullsec anom ratting, go for golem for the isk/hour from both dps and salvage. Otherwise, better off in tengu.

Tengu.

If you want a marauder, fly a Vargur. No TP-juggling, no volley counting, more choice in rigs, etc.

While the answer to that question is, as mentionned, tengu, it depends what youre going to be doing.

Tengu is way more versatile, skill points allow for a lot more things, etc, but if you plan to only run level 4s all day then a Golem will flat out murder a Tengu in missioning speed, so yeah, it depends.

Golem for OMFGWTF DPS but lots of micromanagement

Tengu for Pretty Good DPS and you can forumwhore or browse or watch a film while you earn

Tengu if you're blitzing for LP or flying against Guristas. Golem if you're killing everything in the mission in high-sec or work in an otherwise secure bit of space.

Even then, the Golem is a sub-par choice compared to the Vargur or the Mach.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

Tengu for same reasons already mentioned and that you don't have to juggle target painters as after awhile that will probably get annoying. Slowboating it to jump gates is also a tad bit on the annoying side as well.

If you wanted something in the middle of the road theres the Nighthawk, if you fit it right you can get it to do around the same DPS as a Tengu while still having a decent tank, though it will cost you. It probably be in the same price range of a comparable Tengu as it won't have the standard cheap passive setup. I call it middle of the road as the last hi slot is nearly useless as it's an unbonusd turrent slot and I typically fit a tractor beam which allows me to loot ships while missioning, mainly BS/BC size ships of anything of value and I have a decent size cargohold. Comes at a cost though, long skill training for it. Though as a nighthawk pilot I will still say Tengu.

Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you.

Thanks for the info peeps. I appreciate it. I'm still a bit torn between the 2. I really do like the battleship's "kit" - big, slow, hits like a truck. At the same time, I love the versatility of the Tengu and the overall balance.

I don't mind the micromanagement. Actually find it a nice change of pace from the amazingly boring game of Caldari, 3-button snoozing.

I'm still training some support skills before making my decision, but I do appreciate the input. I will very likely end up with both at some point, but which one to get first has been a difficult decision.

IMO for most targets Kronos is now better than Vargur. Excepting extreme tank requirements. Paladin is better than both so long as RF or Angels are not involved in the deal.

Long term, the ship you want is the Machariel Blink

in the realm of blitzing L4s then you want both. i use both.

outside of this you may find yourself wanting more survive -ability with flexibility and that's tengu all the way.

Not just that, but by the time you _start_ shooting in a Golem (due to stuff finally being in range) the Tengu pilot will have popped the first couple of rats already.
