I haven't watched that in a bit but I think there is only a vague resemblance at best. There is a difference between looks like and same model where art assets are concerned. Also, mods are not the same as commercially released games. It may well be the mod designers have permission to release what they have or are simply waiting for CCP to call them on it before dropping support for the mod.

Either way, mod designers get enough flak and I don't see harm in what they are doing. CCP apparently supports some form of model extraction or at least condones it anyway, whether it be for renders or modding of other games for personal entertainment.

Mod designers seldom incorporate other peoples-or games-art assets without giving credit to where they borrowed it from. In fact, it is usually a way of attempting to emulate the original using another game engine. In some ways it is considered a tribute. Personally I think some people get too worked up about such things.

Commercial or free games that give no credit to the original asset designer and distribute a game client they claim as their own using those assets is another thing. Maybe not so different in some peoples opinion, but still a far cry from mods of an existing game by community members using art assets from other games.

Provided you are not reverse engineering or something it is generally considered acceptable unless the developer has strictly declined permission for the use of these assets for personal enjoyment outside of the game. I haven't really looked to see if that is the case here, nor have I used any mods with EVE models in them in other games or seen any.

I have seen redistributions of EVE models for injection into other games however. Technically mods, but actually just standalone ships with the appropriate mechanics in place for a specific game. Available from a Russiansite if I recall for use in X3. Never tried one because I don't see the point and I don't really find XSPs to be that functional and/or they tend to be out of place if such things are just dropped in willy nilly.

Can't think of ever seeing EVE ships or models elsewhere, but I've never looked all that hard either.

Because I love space strategy games I recently downloaded this $9.99 app for my Ipad called "Galaxy Empire"... basically an online RTS for Ipad.

Browsing through the menus and selecting ships, I was baffled to find that Galaxy Empire's bomber art was a cut and paste of the beloved Drake. Same for the Legion and the Abaddon...

Pretty shameless tbh... Anyone ever come across anything similar?

I saw some web-based game that used Eve module icons.

The Freelancer mod "Discovery" uses EVE stuff for mining equipment and pictures of various ores.

How hard can it be to find a stock photo of a rock and run it through some filters in photoshop? God people are lazy.

what ship does the hurricane look like?

fenrir = sand crawler
providence = rebel transport
minnie shuttle = tie fighter
amarr shuttle = a wing

Apparently Star Wars also borrowed a time machine from somewhere as they somehow borrowed these designs some thirty years before EVE was a glimmer in the developers eye.

Some of the Minmatar characters look just like the punk rock guy from Guitar Hero.

And I *know* I've seen that CQ door idea done before in another game with doors... I just can't put my finger on it....

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

No... The Noctis was an homage to the Omega Class EarthForce Destroyer from Babylon 5: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omega_class_destroyer
