I remember back when I first signed up they offered a one time name change without any costs. I have not changed any of my charatcers name but want to do so now Is that offer still valid if I did not use it. If not what do you have to do to change it?

You cannot. Also, I'm pretty sure they have never, ever offered a name change.

I have been playing since 2007. This has never been offered since then, nor have I ever heard of it being offered before then.

The only time you can change your name is if you've picked one that's offensive and it's been petitioned.

Then I think CCP will kindly change it to something usefull like Capsuleer 125485487526344851

Yes, as has been stated this service has never been offered by CCP

They will sort out capitalisation errors:
IE
Easy tArget to Easy Target

There have been a few limited cases where they allowed a change, but only on a very young charactor (days, if not hours)

Hello Wripely,

The naming policy can be located here: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Naming_policies

Of course there are special exceptions but I would assume the GM's handle that on a case by case basis. As I am not a GM I do not fully know. So if you want to change your name or attempt to there is no harm in asking through a petition.

I hope this answered your question.

If you have any other questions don't hesitate to contact me In-Game.

I think the issue here is that changing your name would be like changing your identity.

Since your name is your 'only' identity in EvE, this would be easily exploited by corporate hangar thieves and spies.

Join corp, steal locker contents, sell stuff, change name, repeat.

There would be no way for your angry ex-corpies to put you on a 'kill on sight' list, or hire mercenaries to take you out. There would be no way to track or follow you, or to warn others that 'So-and-so is a corp theif'.

There are a lot of people in EvE who unfortunately choose silly names for themselves. I prefer to think of these names as 'pilot names', sort of like a nickname you got in the training academy.

You would see these in air combat movies sometimes like Top Gun. A pilot would have his or her full name written on their helmet, with a nickname in the middle such as Peter "Pumpkin Eater" Mc Murphy. You might not like your nickname, but it still sticks with you and eventually you become accustomed to it.

One way of 'changing your name' is in your biography. Make your biography look like a data file.

Wripley is really not a bad name, but if you wanted you could say your real or full name is 'W.Ripley', such as 'Wilma' or 'Wendy' or 'W'uugha' Ripley. The other pilots or maybe the training instructor gave you the 'pilot name' of 'Wripley' so (s)he didn't confuse you with the other 'Ripley' there. You could even choose a new 'pilot name' for yourself, such as "Wilma 'The Ripper' Ripley". Just tell your corpmates to call you 'Wilma' or 'Ripper'.

That way, when you join a corporation they can call you by your preferred name and you only have to worry about your 'pilot name' when you post here in forums or switch corporations.
