Honestly, I agree with you that the Mackinaw needs more CPU. It would be nice if it had around 300 base CPU vice the 198 it currently has. The ultimate outcome, however, would be that it would simply be a more effective 0.0 semi-solo-ice-miner.

It would still get the hell blown out of it by empire gankers. That's fine, I like that Empire is more dangerous than 0.0 in certain regards.

When I used to participate in Ice Mining Ops, my standard fit was 2x Ice Harvester Upgrade II and 2x Ice Harvester II. THere wasn't much room or much point in fitting more to it. There was always a tank for the rats and scouts for the hostiles.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

I know, we do have a tank and scouts too. But they are no real players ... just alt chars.

No real and active player would do the job for more then 30 minutes.

But that's not the topic.
I gave the limits which aren't somewhere "make me IMBA" or "want god mode". I too said nothing about "must fit LSE" or other over sized stuff.

Why the hell can't I fitt capital repairs or shield booster on an Orca ... it's an CAPITAL ship!

The question is: for an exhumer, what constitutes oversized stuff?

Exhumers use medium rigs, just like other industrials, but they don't have the ridiculously abundant CPU found on T1 industrials (which is a legacy from a plan CCP abandoned long ago).

What else uses medium rigs? A cruiser or a BC. For a cruiser or BC, a 1600mm plate or LSE II is an oversize module, but most combat fits can pack them on with relative ease (albeit making minor adjustments). No serious cruiser fits an MSE II - those are for frigates and destroyers. In many ways, exhumers are more like destroyers that use medium rigs than cruisers. So, an MSE II should be an oversized rig for an exhumer.

The Hulk is relatively easy to pimp out for max yield and have an [expensive] permarunning tank that can handle a triple BS spawn.

How is the Hulk able to do this? Because it has base CPU of 300. The other exhumers should have a base of 300 CPU as well.

That would allow them to fill their midslots with expensive shield tanking modules for 0.0 fits, or fit a moderate buffer tank for high security space (not that 19k is that many EHP).

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

- all slots used without stupid stuff

Hull, armor or shild tanks are fine. Even mixed tanks are ok as only EHP counts.

This is what I use. Tanking a Mackinaw against ganking is pointless as it just isn't possible, so just worry about the rats.

I like the cargo to be 12k so it can hold 3 full cycles of ice. I don't usually use an Orca when harvesting ice; I put the Orca pilot into another Mackinaw.

Pretty hard, the ship got some serious fitting problems when you have to use t2 models and you cant use fitting mods.

This is what I ended up with.

[Mackinaw, Test]

Ice Harvester II
Ice Harvester II

Invulnerability Field II
Survey Scanner II
Small Shield Extender II
Small Shield Extender II

Damage Control II
Adaptive Nano Plating II

Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I

Got 16k EHP and if you burn the Invulnerability Field its 17k EHP .
also requires a 5% CPU implant

Ditto, though I personally prefer a buffer fit.
12K cargo is a must, unless there's an active Orca in the field (which means it's even more pointless to tank because you need to pay attention).

12.7K EHP (max skill), no significant resist holes.

P.S Stop putting survey scanners on Macs. You dont need them for ice.

I know the common named/faction fittings (sometimes faction is less expensive). That's not the point :).

My point is simple: Shouldn't all Tech II ships be able to fitt a decent T2 only fit?
For combat ships this can mean you don't fit the biggest guns (not 720mm artis but 650mm as excample). For not-combat ships this isn't posible as there are no other Stripe/Ice miners (why not?) so you might have to use smaller shilds (not LSE like every cruiser+ size combat ship but MSE).
And this without any need of CPU or PG mods! The hull should have enough CPU+PG to just use standart T2 stuff.

Same btw for T1 hulls. They should have enough CPU+PG to use standart T1 items (Retriever didn't even has enough CPU for 2 * T1 Stripe + 1 * T1 upgrade).

And till now noone could tell me a reason for this fail designe except the common "mining sucks anyway" which is, to be honest, not even an argument but just propaganda.

Why the hell can't I fitt capital repairs or shield booster on an Orca ... it's an CAPITAL ship!

Why is it stupid? Any reason, why a Tech II ship shouldn't be able to be decently fit with pur Tech II items?

I know, many of you hate miners/industrials. But byside of this ... any real reason? Balance? EVE Law? Real Physic?

Just because it's Tech 2 doesn't make it better or cheaper than Meta 4.

EDIT: Your rules are dumb. You can make a better fit by not filling all mod slots, or fitting PG mods.

Aiming at fitting T2 only is absurd ! Buffer tank mod are better meta 4 than t2 ; same goes for prop mod for which t2 or meta is situational.
Worse : you are specifying a *tank* with no fitting mod, and then make the comparison with a t2 frig fited for tackle, which is completely different ; tank is the hardest thing to fit on any ship ; have you ever tried to fit a EAF for max tank with t2 modules only while keeping it's EW modules because it's an EAF, and without fitting mod, for the lulz ? Have you ever tried to fit a dictor whith t2 modules for max tank (which is even coherent if we consider the ship role...), of course with 2 bubble launchers and no fitting mod, for the lulz ?

Your conditions are just plain stupid. They make absolutely no sense other than whining for an exhumer buff.

Some people already showed you makinaw tank with more than 15kehp, which is more than you can ever achieve with most frigates unless you put *only* a tank on it. Why don't you try to remove one ice harvester to free up some PG/CPU ? That would be *exactly* like downgrading guns.

Troll

And you + the poster above you again have no real argument except flame and blame.

And you didn't even responde why the Retriver can't even fit 2 stripe Tech1 + 1 upgrade Tech 1 leaving 2 slot empty.

So either bring real arguments or don't post at all with your anti miner hate.

PS: MSE II 1050 shild >> MF-S9 900 shield
Meta 4 is NOT better, this is not armor tank!

this thread is full of stupid
t2 ships should be able to fit full t2 fit? why for exactly? mackinaw cant, and neither can large part of other t2 ships either, unless they downgrade stuff or otherwise gimp the fit

Yes, it is stupid that every other ship can be downgraded except Mining ships.

I would be happy to be able to fit some sort of short range high yield Stripe Miner or more range less yield Ice Miner just to be able to fit some more EHP/defens like any other ship can do.

But gus what ... NOT POSIBLE becouse of missing equip!

So let's pack it:
- less options becouse of missing moduls
- unable to be fit with standart T2 becouse of CPU+PG
- unable to fit STANDART UPGRADE FITTINGS like every damn combat ship becouse of missing CPU+GRID

If Barges are just small hulls, WHY do we have to use MEDIUM RIGS??????????

If Barges are just frig size ships, WHY do they have the aggility of Battleships ????????

All you guys post is "we hate miners". NOTHING ELSE!
No argument but plain brainlase hate!

Sorry, I wasn't really interested in responding to your OP.
Just elaborating on Tau's post for anyone who's interested in a practical Mackinaw build.

There's no reason to mine ice in the first place or fit tank on paper thin ships when you are in NPC stations.
If you are in some corp just do something else than train dictors logistics and mining ships, this is how you win Eve.
Leave crap game play and unfunny stuff for silly people

Everyone trying this is just silly until they understand there's no need to mine in game and use those stupid paper thin ships.

Just buy cheap mods on the market, put buy orders, trade while training your refining skills, kill rogue drones and reprocess those mods/alloys and profit.
If you're mining you're doing it wrong (this Mackinaw exercise looks funny)

I don't know who "you guys" refers to... I never weighed in on this topic prior to this week. But seriously, what do you want the ship to be able to tank?

I don't have a fit to add, however I'd like to point out that this rule is absolutely baseless and stupid. There are A LOT of META 4 modules that are not only BETTER than T2 but also CHEAPER. This rule would only make sense if you need to please your OCD by seeing uniform names on your fittings.
