New Sov System

We need to make sov more fair and balanced, because right now it just is broken.

So, I propose we scrap the entire sov system for nullsec and implement this.

To claim a nullsec system your alliance must kill more belt NPCs than any other alliance in that system. So if you want sov in ABC-123 and are DRONE ALLIANCE A, you must kill more RAT in that ABC-123 that day than DRONE ALLIANCE B kills in ABC-123 that day.

Also, if you don't kill a rat in a system that day, the system reverts to unclaimed.

By tying sov to the number of rats killed in a system we can guarantee activity in all nullsec fixing lots of problems.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

I think it would be fun to see how that works out. Lets try it.

PVE to determine SOV, this will not end well.

I still say corporations should claim SOV and not alliances.

SOV should apply to high, low and null-sec. The corporation / alliance owning it should determine the security status. And even the Empire corporations will need to fight to hold their territory and enforce it.

The influence system used in Incursions inspired me to propose this:

Your link doesn't work but I like your idea. Throw that across all of space, especially because it would be easy to simulate the activity of NPC corporations to ensure that empire holds *some* space and ... I like it. I really do.

This is completely stupid idea - worthy of masternedguy

Weird, some time back I had a similar idea of using rats killed in a system to determine. If you want SOV in a system you should be active in it or in other words actually defend it not spam sov structures.

My system was a little different in that instead of a 24 hour period it took place over a week or so in order to determine SOV.
In order to challenge someone's SOV you would have to exceed their average NPC kill rate. Whoever kills the most rats during the challenge period wins SOV essentially. If an additional challenger (alliance) wants in on the fun it must exceed the current holders NPC kill rate. If the challenger accomplishes this they will be added to the currently running challenge timer as a new challenging alliance. This accomplishes two things. One, it prevents methods of blocking people out of claiming SOV by by creating artificial challenge timers. Two, alliances are seen as individual groups not coalitions. You can still pvp as a coaltion but can't effectively claim SOV as a coalition.

Three other things to add:

1. There is a minimum amount of activity needed in order to maintain SOV. If minimum is not kept, SOV falls to local NPC's.

2. Only the current SOV holder can collect bounties. This creates an additional incentive to SOV holders as well as creates an obstacle for would-be challengers.

3. An escalation feature should be added to SOV created anomalies in which the ratio of NPC's to pod pilots is kept constant no matter how many pilots show up in an anomaly. This ratio should shift every 15 minutes or so as it will need to increase and decrease the size of spawn waves over time. Essentially, this all means that if double the normal pilots show up in an anomaly, then the size of NPC spawns will double whilst spreading aggro to all pod pilots. This creates the incentive to pile as many people as you can into one system and promoting teamwork (logistics etc.). The spawn waves can also decrease overtime so smaller groups won't get slaughtered outside main activity times.

Can't really expect anything else from a care-bear I guess.

No, OP, just - no. How about you quit trying to ninja rat in nullsec and join an alliance? How about when you are in said alliance you stop being a fricken care-bear ratting during CTA's and other alliance ops, and pay attention to YOUR sov? Then you will realize just how much activity there is in null-sec.
