How do you share EvE with others?

So I'm reading the topic "Do you hide your EVE addiction" and I'm noticing a lot of people seem to have trouble talking with others about EvE, and I gotta admit whenever I've tried to explain this game to someone I'm usually at a lose of what to say and end up saying something that wouldn't interest me if I heard it. So for those of you who do talk about this game a lot with others how do you explain it?

I don't have an EVE game addiction but I do spend more time than I should with the EVE Universe.

Watch_ Fred Fred Frederation_ and stop cryptozoologist! Fight against the brutal genocide of fictional creatures across New Eden! Is that a metaphor? Probably not, but the fru-fru- people will sure love it!

Hide it? The hell, just embrace it! That's what I do bc I know I'm a lost case either way Lol

Wouldn't call it an addiction, I enjoy quite a few things and out of gaming eve isn't even the largest time consumer.

But in general it goes like: Yeah its like spreadsheets with space as a background, so pretty normal.

I have a harder time talking to people about my real life than EVE.

That's when **** gets scary.

Maybe I shouldn't have used the word addiction, I used it because the topic that inspired this one did. What I was asking was about how to properly explain this game to others who don't know about it.

I never have trouble talking about it. But then again, i'm not ashamed of anything i do in it.

Usually stress the economic and industry side of it to people, because the average person is probably more interested in that sort of thing than they are in 'pwning nubs 4 tears', or just being another ship in a blob.

I gave up a long time ago trying to explain this game to people. The only nutshell term I can think of is using the phrase 'sandbox game', but even that returns blank stares. So I just keep it to myself.

I did find one guy at work who played Eve, but he only played occasionally in blob-fest fleets so we still didn't have much to talk about. Prob a good thing tho, cos if I found someone with a similar interest-level to me I'd probably talk them to death - I have that much Eve conversation bottled up!

I just say its a sandbox with spaceships thrown in.

Despite my posting prowess I really am terrible at this game

I tried. They still get lost at 'sandbox'. Ruddy no-techs!

I usually try to stress the whole global sandbox element but something about EVE's scale gets lost in translation.

When i said that in your other thread i figured you wouldn't like me for it.

But I don't hold anything against you, for what it's worth. We're just ideologically opposed

Agreed. Scale is the other issue I have explaining.

I just say it's a screensaver. If they insist on knowing, I tell them them it's a very competitive mulitplayer spaceship game that involves trading, industry, war and politics.
