Is there such a thing as smuggling anymore?

I recently read, that any tricky use of in-game mechanics to avoid getting hammered by the customs is considered an exploit.

Of such is the example of using the orca corporate hangar which has been since fixed, as well as the "wait one hour after dt" exploit.

There seem to be tricks that work to an extent having to do with fast warp action, but that again would be exploiting.

Is there such a thing as legitimate smuggling?

Only legitimate ways of smuggling I've read about have simply to do with finding routes that have no customs officials on them.

What are the facts concerning the customs officials?

- Do they always stick to the same gates or do they change gates?
- Do they catch you 100% or is there chance involved?
- Are there any in-game skills that influence this directly?
- Is it possible to smuggle to Jita for example legitimately without being caught in any form?

Edit: Clarificiation, I'm asking in terms of highsec contraband items, such as combat boosters.

You may want to clarify you mean to smuggle actual illegal products.

Other kinds of smuggling exist and are quite alive in Eve. I just made almost a billion ISK off a smuggling op, but I'm not going to tell you how.

I'm making a report on the current state of booster business and through that I have to include mechanics of smuggling.

By smuggling I then mean boosters, specifically.

No, it is mostly broken and has been for some time. Crimewatch 2.x might change it, someday.

smuggling combat boosters is easy, you just decline handing over the boostersand continue, try to start out 3 jumps or so from jita in low sec, sometimes u get caught others not at all, if ur caught and deny handing over the boosters you get fined so much isk per booster, but its not even comparable to the amount of isk you make from the boosters. also fast warping ship is great, not an exploit. getting gcc and being able to live is an exploit. but having the customs come after you and survivng is not, use alt cuz you take faction loss ass well per booster found

Closest i've found is transporting goods from hisec to 0.0 in a Prowler, but 0.0 alliances have been given relatively safe workarounds, so it's not necessary. Fun, though. Big smile

re-edit to my post though, make sure to have enough isk in ur wallet to cover any fines, or it will put your wallet in the negative not allowing you to do anything on market or contracts

Some time ago, the devs were talking about removing the NPC customs ships and letting us do the scanning and, more importantly, the enforcement. Dunno if that's still coming soon(tm), or of it's quietly been removed from the to-do list.

All fair and good, but does anyone have any facts concerning the customs?

getting caught is chance basis, they stick to the same gates, there is no legite way around them. best bet on chance basis is get to the closest low sec to the high sec dest then run them in there to decrease gates traveled and extra chances of being caught

1. Buy drugs from trade hubs in factions that you're comfortable having as enemies: Res/Hek, Dodixie/whatever.

2. Fly out of said faction space.

3. When you get the popup at a gate, wait until you're warping off to X it out.

4. Eat the standings hit.

Untried; based mainly on a conversation during the 'bring back solo' podcast. You can get scrammed if you mess up step #3, but you won't get scrammed just for flying through their space even after they hate your guts.

People used to smuggle drugs in. They had to kill customs on gates and warp the hauler in after. THEN, the Orca arrived. Mr. Unregulated corp hangar won the day.

You say "anymore" like there was such a thing as smuggling to begin with.
