The eve new crimewatch system sounds so similar to Mortal Online.

Taken from the Mortal Online site:

Quote:
The balance of Mortal Online's open-PvP relies heavily on its flagging system. Each player and NPC (Non-Player Characters, Creatures etc) in the game has a flag (color) that is visible to you when you highlight or target them. The color will tell you some basic facts about that player, for instance if it's "ok" to attack him/her or not, although you will never be forbidden to do so by the system. You too have a flag of course, visible to yourself at all times.

Getting to know the basics of the flagging system is easy when playing the game, but unfortunately rather complex to describe. However, when you first start playing, all you need to know is:

Neutral/Blue players are innocent (well, as innocent as they get) and it's not ok for you to damage them. You may not steal from them, cast suspicious spells or poison them. If you do so, you become Allowed/Grey. Kill enough of them and you will eventually be flagged as a Murderer/Red.

Allowed/Gray players have behaved badly in some way against you or someone else in the last few minutes, meaning you can attack them without becoming Grey for everybody else. But remember, if you attack them first, they have the right to attack you back! (Meaning they see you as Grey.)

Murderers/Red players have committed several murders, and you better look out for them. You can attack them without turning Grey for everybody else, but if you attack first, they have the right to attack you back! (Meaning they see you as Grey.)

Loot from other players and specific objects in the world share this system as well and will be colored accordingly. That means it's ok to loot or interact with all Red and Grey stuff you see, but if you mess with Blue stuff you will become Grey yourself.

If you decide to join a Player Guild that is at war with another Player Guild, special rules apply. You will still see their flag/color, but they will be treated by the system as Grey and so will you for them!

As the system itself will always allow you to attack, steal, enchant, poison or kill any color/flag you like whenever you want, you might ask what the colors/flags are for except decoration. The main reasons are:

Cities and villages may have guard zones, where it's possible to call for the guards to capture or kill any Grey or Red player, if they're not already doing so.

Certain merchants may choose not to trade with Grey or Red players.

Players of every color may take the opportunity to attack Grey or Red players, as they can do so without getting Grey themselves.

Red players may loose stats if they resurrect too soon after being killed. Also, most healers will simply refuse to resurrect murderers.

Now, I don't play this game and I'm not saying that anyone should move to it, but I was browsing the web and came across this. This could be a cool way to handle the crimewatch system without screwing up sec status as much.

Actually, it sounds to me like Mortal stole a bunch of stuff from EVE and tried to mix it with WoW. I could be wrong, I'm going to go take a look at this game and see what exactly it is.

Oh yea, I have no doubt that they borrowed heavily from eve lol. I actually read an article where they had copied the ToS from eve and forgot to take out the "eve online" part. I do like how they handle their flagging system though.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to put Eve down or say MO is a better game at all.

Played mortal in 2 or 3 instances and left. It's not like wow in any way besides that it is in a fantasy setting. The only problem with the game is that it has a VERY small staff team behind it. There are a LOT of bugs because of this and the new player experience is horrendous. The mechanics are solid, think skyrim but a MMO. The only downfall are the bugs and some UI/Tutorial parts... that's really sucky.

Well then maybe CCP is simply returning the favor? Big smile

Except Mortal Online's system doesn't have anything like EVE's CONCORD, in fact no Sandbox MMO that I know of does. If EVE''s new crimewatch was to mimic this, CONCORDs presence ought to be limited around major trade stations like Jita 4-4, and all rules and mechanics scrapped that make it neigh impossible to avoid CONCORD's wrath, and make it a violation of rules should you some how manage to evade them.

some one killed my sheep in MO . i was greatly saddened by the whole ordeal.

it was just a lil sheep and this person had to chase me and my sheep half way across MO and kill it.

This why we cant have sheep in eve. because of people like him who will chase you all over new eden just to kill your pretty lil sheep.

Worst MMO I ever played. That is saying something, too.

Hello, hello again.

Who the hell has heard of Mortal Online? One more reference to an obscure game someone found in a Google search, or their buddies from some podunk town in Nebraska play with them and I'll chew my keyboard into putty.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

Sounds a lot closer to Lineage 2. WoW doesn't have one of these Korean style flagging systems.

It's kind of hard not to know about one of the only three open PvP sandbox MMORPGs around. The other two being Darkfall and of course Eve.

Sounds like a great system to me. It sounds like that is the direction CCP is headed for except CCP had the bad idea that you shouldn't be able to defend yourself.

I really don't see the problem with having -10 flashy red to everyone and only able to defend himself instead of faction navy following him around. This way the players police the systems and its purely voluntary. If they don't want to fight then they will be fine as the -10 cannot shoot them without CONCORD. This will also give a reason for bounty hunters to police high sec and collect rewards/shoot people/have fun/have a workable bounty hunter system.

It's a very interesting game, it's also incredibly young.

There's word of a large patch or something that'll update a load of stuff, I might give it a go againw hen that hits.

It's very similar to eve though..... except knights and ting isntead of spaceships

Don't forget Perpetuum, the game we all went to during monocle gate. Definitely a better game then Mortal or the utter **** that is Darkfall.
