Make officer rat spawn locations known to everyone who checks the starmap.

- But don't tell exactly when the officer is going to spawn there. Just make the location system start flashing in the starmap, and make it so that the officer rat can spawn there at any time between 10-60 minutes. When the rat actually spawns there, the notification gets removed from the starmap.

What would hopefully happen is:

- Solo players and small gangs with fast ships would roam the 0.0 hunting for these officer rat sites and setting up camps in the spawn systems waiting other players to come there to claim the officer rat. This would create so many fights.
- Large gangs would not form up to hunt these officer sites, since few billions divided by 30+ players ain't much. Also since officer rat can spawn as soon as in 10 minutes after the location started to flash on map, most people would just rush to that location instead of taking time to form a large gang. Large gangs might still find it worthwhile to go there though if the place is close and their gang is already formed up.

I don't know the current situation with officer rats but I assume CCP would have to make adjustments to the spawn rates, loot drops and spawn locations of officer rats to make this feature work.

PS. You can replace officer rats with some other event but I figure might as well use a feature that is already in the game.

hmm I could consider it in local. Give a bit of a competition, system map would make it a bit too far to find. Also why would an officer spawn be reported on a map?

Dust 514's CPM 1 Iron Wolf Saber Eve mail me about Dust 514 issues.

Because actually getting out there and searching for the rats yourself is :effort:

What is the problem with having it map wide? And why would it not be reported on a map? Is it against EVE lore or something?

Well if people don't know where they are then there are only few random dudes searching them and no one is going to get any fights out of this. The whole point is to get people risking their ships and fighting for the isk prize that is the loot from an officer rat.

I'm against adding more free intel tools to the game unless absolutely necessary. Officer kills and their loot should go to the people hunting them down and doing the work and not the strongest entity in the area at the time. Getting by unnoticed and avoiding all serious fights is pretty much the only way the little guys can get any access to certain resources. Advertising them on the starmap for everyone to see would practically prevent any small or solo entity from ever getting them and just let some lazy ass blobbers farm them as they appear on the map, so it's an awful idea on it's own merits too.

I'm seeing this as way for the little guy and small gangs to make isk, but even more I see it as a way to get more fights in 0.0. Do you have any idea how long it takes for these "strongest entities" to form up? And more people they take the less isk they get from it and they risk someone snatching the officer rat under their noses.

Also are you seriously suggesting there are more than handful of people making their isk by hunting officer rats? The way I see it they are currently "farmed" by people who live and rat in the area and are lucky enough to bump into a officer rat.

As opposed to putting them on the big board and having every ****** in half the land camping your system?

This is a terrible idea. Here's what it would cause:

- more ratting drama
- "the little guy" never getting officers rather than getting them rarely

Of course you don't like this idea because you live in 0.0 and make your isk by ratting. You don't want small gangs to roam in your space and you want to keep the loot from the officer rat that you found by dumb luck.

But overall CCP wants more small gangs roaming in 0.0 and I think this would be a great way to motivate them to do so. Imagine having multiple small gangs roaming different sections of 0.0 ready to burn to the officer rat location that started to flash nearby. So much more pvp in 0.0.
