Expanding the Mining Tree

As many people know, the mining tree is rather lacking when it comes to continuous advancement further into the profession; a well attributed and implanted person can finish up Hulk training in about two to three months, and finish up strip miner and crystal training in a short amount of time as well. In comparison, there are perhaps dozens of combat ships that fill various roles in both pvp and pve in Eve here, so the expansion of the miner path would bring some back to the profession turned off by the constant ganking up in highsec. Just a few ideas, feel free to contribute

Stealth Miners
Can fit a Covert Ops cloak on their vessel, has it's remaining high slots taken up by mining lasers (for example, an a hull based on the Coveter, four high slots). Can not mine while cloaked up and generally follows the rules that normal stealth bombers, covert ops, and other cloaked vessels have. Not a terribly large cargohold and can fit a speed setup to quickly get out of trouble if need be, and if something attacks it. This would make low security space solo mining and harvesting as well as probably null security space mining just a tad better and bring more ore and minerals on the market

Capital Mining Vessels
Brought up in another thread made by me from someone else, the capital mining vessel is an interesting counterpart to an Orca or a Rorqual. The Capital mining vessel is much like a dreadnaught, in that it has four mountings for lasers and a Industrial module that allows it to go into mining mode and pull more ore out of asteroids while being unable to move. Ice and ore versions would be nice, as well as stealth variations, and ones with a sizable drone bay to fend off some attackers

Dedicated Gas Harvesters
While gas harvesting is not as big of a portion of Eve as many other things are, gas still plays an important role in some places. A battlecruiser, or cruiser sized vessel with turret hard points, and able to only fit gas modules and some defenses, would be nice and very interesting to see and experiment with. They would not be as tough as say, a Ferox would be, but they could harvest gas at a faster and more efficient rate than a ship like the Ferox could do

Probe Miners
Would take the guesswork out of hunting for gravimetric and ladar sites, as well as allowing some people to do these areas solo and pick up more minerals in these areas without having to have a scouting alt/ally person to help them do it, and would foster independence in miners

Decoy Ship
Looks and acts like a mining vessel, but much like the Q-ship design people are fond of, the ship is capable of defences that could easily tank a glass cannon ship. Decent speed, large drone bay, only able to have one mining laser, which harvests at about the rate of a Retriever

Any other ideas people would like to add, or would people like to give constructive

Why?

Stealth Miner: Ninja-mining a couple k m3 and then running back to highsec and coming back out is horribly unprofitable. If you have the supply chain to get the ore out and make it profitable, you don't need to be able to cloak like that.

Cap Miner: Any miner that's 'bigger and better' than the Hulk will HURT miners in the long run, CCP has expressed before that they won't be doing this.

Gas miners: They would fill a niche that would be useful, but I don't think they're a high priority.

Probe miners: As with stealth miners, if you have the supply chain to get the ore out, you can just use a dedicated probing ship and drop it in your Orca's hold or whatever.

Decoy Ship: Known baitships are always treated as baitships. People will either just not engage or will bring overwhelming force to one-hit you and then leave before your backup can show.

Keep in mind that these were ideas garnered mainly for advice and to see if they were feasible; the biggest complaints about the mining ship tree is that their is a significant lack after Hulk training finishes up, so this was to expand upon them.

Generally agree with all your points but this one.
The point of that ship would be it appears to be a Hulk or whatever.
when in reality its a combat ship.

Honestly I see this being more of a module than a whole ship.
So have a module like a "Holoemitter I" makes you appear on scan and in overview as a Hulk, when in reality you are actually a Loki.

There is a fine line between a post and a signature.

Sounds like a great idea in truth, would be interesting to see. Big smile

The problem with most ideas here is that they sound good on paper but if implemented, they would be overused to crap.
