The only thing I see is a decline in players because of the summer

EVE never actually had noteworthy drops in average online players due to the summer.
At most, there was a barely noticeable OCCASIONAL dip, but more often than not, summer average online numbers were actually QUITE HIGH.
IN FACT, EVE actually has a "winter dip" that's more pronounced and more regular than any occasional summer dips. And that's when you're looking at cold, hard numbers ( http://jestertrek.blogspot.com/2011/08/some-curves-arent.html ) not at some make-belief or wanna-remember-differently data.

But the drop this year continues. It's not catastrophic, but it's there and it IS noticeable. VERY noticeable.

and some people might have unsubbed some alts because of the eurocrisis.

There was a much more panic-inducing crisis several years ago, and the effect was the exact opposite.
EVE is cheap entertainment (1 month of gameplay for the price of a movie ticket), so when it's economic crunch time, MMOs should actually see a GROWTH in subscriber counts, not a dip.

Cause it is the same graph as the year before.

You need better prescription glasses.
It might be SOMEWHAT similar to last year's graph, but only because last year was a pretty shabby release year too - this year it's noticeably worse.
Compared to the same graph of two, three, four and even more years ago, the difference is slap-to-the-face obvious.

looking at the number of players on http://eve-offline.net/?server=tranquility it looks like eve is dying

It's kinda unsettling, so....am i missing something? some great stuff coming up?

Ugh wtf

(also, fix the ******* forum you fucktards. postings shouldnt dissapear....)

Sorry to bother, but what exactly shows that Eve is dying? The only thing I can see is a decrees the last three months. But that's probably because the vacation period is over and the school/wok period starts.

I am once again compelled to comment upon the ABSOLUTE ACCURACY, VERACITY, AND PENETRATING PERTINENCE of AKITA T's postings....

Sorry to interrupt, but there is a reason that Akita T has "Gravitas" in this forum... and it is due to the above.

Now carry on... "Eve is dying.. etc, etc ,etc. "

(P.S.: The antidote to "Eve is dying". is NOVA BOMBS.... see my other posts.)

I'd be proper worried when the time comes that eve is NOT dying...

Eve will not die until there is a better (niche) option.

Lets face it, most of us (not all) are here because EVE is different from other MMOs and we will take a break but we will come back, admit it, how many unsubscribers actually discarded their chars :)

EVE will die the day there is a real competitor (FiS, Sandbox, harsh gameplay) for its niche OR it will die slowly by becoming WOW

Seriously, don't take me serious, I MEAN IT...seriously

eve is not dying. as Akita T has said, eve's player is shrinking, but for varied reasons. Yes the drop is noticeable, but it is not pronounced enough to be of the crisis level needed to state OMG EVE IS DIEING EVERYBODY GTFO BEFORE IT ASPLODES!

There are always drops in player subscription rates, and as of yet there is no reason to believe there will not be a resurgence of players.

Akita, great posts.

Look at EVE.

Now look at any other game.

Look at EVE again.

/thread

in my opinion EVE is a particular MMO. Not because of its niche market, or its sandbox-ish character, but because the development behind it and CCP. Who would risk to launch a brand new FPS MMOBA (?) linked to a 8 years old game? Someone who's willing to keep such an old fart as up to date as EVE is. I don't dare to prophesy anything, I don't know how the market may move in a few years from now, but CCP's intention is Crystal clear. They want EVE to last fresh and updated even-though you/we're not always sharing their tempo/focus (which I for one do).

will be a sad day when eve is no longer online...but i do believe with all the new mmorpgs coming out like SWTOR and GW2 and blade and soul the population might not grow that much....this is the only game where i feel the investment is totally worth it.....other games i hit max level and run raids then like..im bored...guess its time to make a new character...always something to do in this game

GW II is well over 3 years late. Anyone that complains about CCP as a company and jumps ship for Arena Net is quite the fool.

I'm not here because EvE is a niche game, I'm here because Anet sucks. They killed GW and failed to develop GW2.

Ironically, as bad as people hate WoW, I feel Bliz is pretty damned good. But the game CCP produces is far superior to either, and CCP is right behind Blizzard IMHO anyway.

But then I guess that cancels the irony right out, since people hate CCP so ******* bad they pay 15 bucks a month to come to these forums and verbalize that.

What a crazy business the MMO industry is.

internet spaceships

are serious business sir.

and don't forget it
