They will still scan you down and find you.

Not when there are generally much easier targets. Atleast with people scanning you down, you have some indication they're coming and can get out.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

They will still scan you down. You will have to run, whether found or not.

why scanning down a ship while you can just fly to the next (ice-)belt and kill something? nobody takes the time to search for a mining barge possibly in warp if there is enough to shot at nearby.
time you spend scanning does not count for hulkageddon

@ Alberik - OP is asking about mining within a mission that has rocks in it. Personally I'd just run the missions for a bit while the while thing dies down, but I really just mission now for standings, not ISK.

@ OP - look at mining battleship fits. Scans (d-scan and probes) will both show the ship class, but not the fit; They'll need to warp in (probably cloaked) to observe you. So have probes on d-scan and hit it now and then.

If possible, try to make one that uses the same ship (and rigs) as your existing L4 mission ship. Then you can swap fits between the two on the same ship (to save on ISK). Just remember that you're still likely to lose the ship, just a bit less so.

Yes they can scan you down, but you will also see the probes in dscan, so as long as your not afk mining you'll have a few minutes warning. Also if you pick a system with low activity you can easily check out each persons info from local, look at there standing, age, their corp, alliance, and look the player up on eve-kill.net. Any signs they may be a ganker should be a red flag.

Alain's post is pretty much correct for anything L3 or lower. L4 missions require mining gas, ice and roids. So to mine ice you'll need to use a mackinaw (mining in a hulk will take 60+ minutes). And the ore mining missions take 30 - 45 minutes in a hulk setup for yield, so I can't imagine how long it would take using Miner II's. You could get away with using a Covetor setup for yield without adding very much extra time (15 - 20 minutes roughly).

And if there is even a hit of a ganker in system just logoff and do something else for 5 - 10 minutes until they move on.

Ninjas don't generally scan for barges. 99% of scan hits will be barges at a belt or in warp. Excluding these is a giant PITA when scanning.

Gankers will almost always go after easier prey.

Unless someone is out to get you, (e.g. you are at war), you're not likely to get scanned down.
