I'm getting to a weird place in EVE

Maybe we can talk about something other then a drunk guy named Alex and a fake electronic market for a while.

I still recall being a noob. I vividly remember someone flying into my home system and marveling at how he had a whoping 50M SP. I ofc was mining normal Veldspar in my Ibis and barely had 1m. Ah... the noobish dreams that I had at the time lol. Now, I have 70m SP, I can use all weapons, fly every tech II-III ship, I can fly all 4 black ops ships, and I am currently working on skills I have no reason to train like Jump Drive Calibration Lv 5. Pretty cool for a sub 100M sp character if I do say so myself.

I have tons of friends in game, and still find EVE Online visually spectacular. I enjoy logging in... and then... that is it. There is no motivation left to do much else besides log in. I kind of always figured that when you got tired of EVE that was it, you're done. But in my case at least, I still love the game, it is just a matter of the game play having nothing else to offer. As a player I think that I am reasonable in my expectations, I am just having trouble committing to a roam, running a mission, going into a Wh or running a CTA when the outcome is predictable.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I can pretty much size up two gangs at this point and predict which one will win. I know where to go to get hotdropped, and where to go to station camp null bears. I know how to hunt in WH space, with the god awful "Circle game" and I know the secrets to making buttloads of isk in unexpected ways. There is just no reason to do any of this, because I have done it already. Anyone else experiencing this?

Since EVE Online was my first MMORGP, I have no frame of reference for reaching a game's "end of life" as it were. I guess I am there, but I still like EVE to much to quit it all together. Weird? Or not so weird? ... and no, if I ever quit all together my stuff will go to a few select friends in game or a random noob who will inherent several billion for no apparent reason. So you cannot haz..

Just take a break. Run through Dragon Age (again?) or something. Go get drunk at the bars for awhile. You'll be back and it will be fun again.

I plan on living forever.......so far, so good.

Eve gets predictable really fast. For a sandbox, the npc/world elements are too static, and the players arent empowered to create their own mini games or content.

Tears will be shed and pants will need to be changed all round.

You won't find many MMOs outlasting EvE as learning / entertrainment time. The others are mostly shallow canned theme parks.

Oh and nullsec doesn't count clearly.

The emergent empires sitting in 0.0 are just static CCP created content afterall Roll

i just can't get motivation to do anything in eve

Eve is the only mmo i have played.I have no real reason to play anything else i love the subject matter, the lore behind it capivates me completely. The graphics astound me everyday

i want to go do other stuff but eve always seems to pull me back

Don't let Morrigan bully Alistair too much. He might off himself. Smile

In all seriousness though, perhaps a break might be in good order.

Dude. You're like my soul mate. I experience the Exact Same Thing, down to the very last letter. I remember mining Kernite with my cormorant and going "Wow that Caracal is so huge!" yes, the newness wore off and that's to be expected. I can also fly every ship with every module (sub-supercarrier). I also dont really even go out roaming because I know what will happen. I also make craptons of isk without having to work hard at it. I also fondly remember all the fleet fights and crazy piracy shenanigans and even some other stranger, more interesting things.

I also log in, go "ooh this is pretty" and log out.

As a matter of fact over the 9 days of this month so far, i've actually played a total of 6 hours. I find that I get into this state where it's just too much work to do something where I know what's going to happen. My encyclopedic knowledge of the game means I can look at a situation and, almost with scary accuracy, tell the future. My answer: playing other games. Of course I can't let up on skill training, so I keep an active account, but in the meantime I play BF3 and Skyrim and other games. When they get boring, I'll go back to eve because Eve is, really, the ultimate engaging experience. I find it to be a vicious repetitive cycle.

It's like I want to play, but as soon as I log in, all motivation leaves because I've already Done It All. I'm really looking forward to Dust.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Lets see...

* Predictable AI when someone enters system (check)
* Predictable response time to a threat (check)
* Predictable ship composition to answer said threat (check)
* Predicable AI when there is no threat in system, roaming belts and mining ore (check)
* Predictable fleet sizes when engaging in sov warfare (check)

Looks like null sec players are not much diff then NPC programmed world elements to me. Ugh
Are you like playing a different game them I am?

I've experienced the same feelings as the OP has. I've taken 3 breaks from EVE since 2004. My first lasted about 6 months, and I restarted completely (deleted my original characters) and started this one. From 2006 to about 2010, I played straight through, no time off and almost every day for about 2 - 3 hours. Then I took a break for about 6 months. Back again for about 8 motnhs and then took my 3rd break. I'm back once again.... EVE always draws me back in, and it is the only MMO that does that.

I'm just about the same range as the OP is as well, skills wise. I have essentially maxed out the skills I need to fly the ships I like, with maximum effectiveness. I'm pretty much strictly a combat pilot, but I have been trying to get into some of the other aspects of the game. Here is my advice to the OP:

1. Try Starting up a corp; keep it small; and work towards making it a successful group of friends with a common goal.

2. Try becoming a marketing mogul. Pick a product and try to monopolize the regional market for it.

3. Try becoming a high sec ore thief. I tried this for a while myself, and it was really great fun and challenging as well. It was not easy to find miners that still jet canned; or would not warp out as soon as you entered a belt.

But, much like you (I assume), I spend a lot of my time sitting on my couch, watching the news feed, and chatting in the Minmatar chat room.

This

I've been playing since Eve went retail in 2003 and I always get drawn back. Sometimes you need a break and then you come back with fresh enthusiasm.

I love jetcanning, just to get the attention of can flippers. Then i toy with them.

It stopped being about the ore a long time ago. Lol I'll keep them there for hours, watching them get increasingly mad.

But i do agree with everything the OP said. And i find it telling many of the people arguing with him have only been playing a couple years.

I, too, find Eve visually spectacular.

*Dons open-throated pink shirt*
*Dons white suede bell-bottoms and platform shoes*
*Teases 'fro*
*Drapes golden chain w/medallion around neck*

All right, time to go do some combat around a site.

(To answer your question, if you're bored, you can just stop playing for a while and only log in to swap training.)

Been there, done that, keep skilling though, burn some plex if you're on a monthly. If yearly, don't worry about it. Put up some long shot low ball market orders. Might come back in a couple months and discover you're rich ... or poor :)

I've been off and on with this game since 2007.

I don' t and will probably never have the problem of 'having done it all'... and I hope I never get there. My problem is that I simply get TOO into the game. I get into a corp, or a corp in an alliance, and eve literally takes over my life. When it gets to that point, I have to get away. I have a 60 mil and several 20-35 mil sp chars on unsubbed accounts right now. I don't play those characters any more because if I did, I would rekindle all those relationships and find myself playing for 6 hours plus every day again.

So I try to find the middle ground, for me that's a lower sp character and mostly a PVE existence. No where near what this game of capable of but sort of where I find I need to stay to keep the game from being too big a part of life.

Reading back over that it actually sounds kind of pathetic but it's really not... just the amount of investment I currently feel I'm up to.

I enjoy this game no matter how I play. Right now am sticking to a more minimum involvement time wise. I am enjoying developing this character the same I enjoyed all the earlier ones. Just will continue to avoid getting to the point where I am talking more on TS than to my family.

Cheers...

S
