This short video clearly shows mining is going to become a more active, and more dangerous profession. We can only hope yields increase accordingly so as to avoid continued mineral inflation.

The video doesn't show it but the new "MicroJump" drive can be used while mining in this way. No guarantees of your ship surviving after its use, however.

It would prevent AFK mining to be sure.

At 11 seconds you can see a dirty Goon entering the belt to gank the miner, but the brave entrepreneur who is fully paying attention (not afk at all due to the new mechanics) valiantly thwarts the danger!

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

Wouldn't it be kinda cool if you could just setup your mining lasers and then have the EVE client zoom to the inside of your POD/ship and flip up a HUD which allows you to "play" the game, Asteroids? And the higher your score, the better your mining yield. (but you better keep an eye on your overview!)

And to avoid copyright infringement, CCP could call it "Blastoids," use an Ibis as the ship you control and just color all the blocks you're shooting brown. Blam, there you go Devs.

Edit#3: You know what? I'm gonna go take this over to the suggestions forum.

Oddly enough that would be an improvement over the current form of mining...

Clearly doctored footage of drone regions

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

Actually, joking aside, it wouldn't be a bad solution to what we have now. Just having to keep the ship moving to avoid having roids bump into you and killing you would do much to remove the boring aspect. Then again, since we have no collision damage, it would never work.

I expect a big push from the players and the CSM on a mining overhaul now that much of the mineral burden will be on the miners once again.

This is a good thing!

Here was my first "video" game, or TV console game. You had to put a plastic overlay on the TV for the court. The only "graphics" were the square ball and the square paddles. I am pretty sure we got this in 1972 or 1973. My dad liked to be on the bleeding edge :-) I remember when he semi replaced his slide rule with a IT calculator.

It wouldn't simulate mining as well as Asteroids but it would still be more fun. EQ had a game in the game called Gems. You could always tell the raiders that were playing it to, the dead ones.

Oh hum.. maybe that's why I like to shoot Mining barges.. All those hours spend killing rocks that wouldn't stop trying to destroy my space ship as a kid must of wore on me.

edit.. yea I had the Pong console as well.
