Downtime and timezones....

In regard to several issues concerning the static downtime every day and players in different timezones having an advantage, or disadvantage because of this:

Why stick to the 24 hour cycle of DT?.. make it 25 hours, so that each timezone will have a DT at a different hour every day over a longer period of time.

The DT is when it is to make it the best possible timing for the people who actually work on the servers during downtime. CCP doesn't want to pay a team of specialists overtime to have them stay 'till 3AM to work on the server during DT and then 'till the next afternoon fixing stuff if something goes wrong. The current timing is best for the actual purpose of DT (to get work done on it), it's not an arbitrary "lets take the server offline for a bit for fun" thing.

Also, the only benefit/drawback of the DT for people in some time zones is having to stop playing for half an hour in the middle of their playtime. Annoying, yes, but you can plan for it.

This, the servers are in London and DT is scheduled when CCP have the staff available to deal with any issues. It's not to suit players in any time zone, it's to suit CCP.
