From hearing soundwave talk during the interview with ten ton hammer, it sounds like the goal is to phase out datacore passive income completely in the long run but the first stage is to add isk cost to datacore production.

Which still makes no sense.

If they want to phase out the passive earning of the datacores, then the proper way to do it is increase the supply. Do that by simply adding datacores to the LP shops of the R&D corps and pricing them in a manner where you can get a good amount of ISK/LP from the purchase.

Increased supply = lower datacore prices = lower return on investment for setting up with R&D agents.

The payoff for a L4 R&D agent is already around 25-30 days (40M for the RPM skillbook, 10M for the datacore skillbook). Increasing supply of datacores will make that payback longer (60-90) days which will automatically result in fewer people bothering to farm R&D agents.

Basically, they want to screw with a working system, just because they don't like "passive" income.

Agreed having the Datacores come From R&D LP makes the most sense. The only issue that might come up from that system is that the skills trained, especially if only for this application, are effectively useless to non-inventors. Looking back I'm not sure I'll be able to recoop enough isk to say the training time was especially worth it. And when/if the final nail in the coffin comes, will atleast RPM be reimbursed? In the end I suppose it's something some of us will have to just deal with.

You guys should all listen/watch Soundwave in the Ten Ton Hammer interview, especially between 8:00 and 8:40.

He said ABSOLUTELY cash out your datacores.
He is first reducing the RP/agent and introducing a datacore tax.
He states this is the first step in completely destroying the datacore mechanic and transferring all datacore creation to FW.

Just watch the interview and cry.

Removing the passive income of datacores if fine and dandy, but... what will be the purpose of R&D agents after it? If their current utility isn't replaced by another form of utility (active?), I'm against the change.

Have been grinding my way through several corps to get standing with a nice collection of lvl4 agents. Most of my alts were only created for datacore harvesting, so my passive income has slowly been growing.
All these alts have been maxed out in Research Project Management and 3 research skills.
All these skills, and the grinding took a lot of time, with the assumption that in the end I would have to do a lot less grinding.

So, if passive income is BAD, what am I supposed to do with these toons? Doing active stuff with a lot of toons is a big chore, and was not what I was planning forUgh
