So.. I just reached 8.0 standings with the Brutor Tribe - all gung-ho about spreading my seed, cruising through space towards my planned destinations for my vanguard of jump clones.. and I arrive at the first Brutor Medical bay, only to be confronted with the message saying: "Access denied. We don't like you or your corporation."

WHAT!?!?!!

You said "you" or your corporation, npc.. isolating the 2 entities with the conjunction "or" - "you" being the keyword, 'cause I know - i - worked hard for that 8.0 standing, so why am I still denied my rights to propagate? The corporation I'm in shouldn't have anything to do with my wanting my own jump clones!

You fail me npc.. you need a slap on the face..

I read from a thread that my corp also needs to have a standing of 8.0 if I really want to make my own jumpers... that or I need to leave my current corp and make one for myself.

Please, say it isn't so.

Try doing an extra few missions to make a 8.1. Sometimes IIRC an 8.0 can actually be 7.99XXX which wont allow CJ access. Run a few more to ensure you're above 8.0

Think you may need a 8.0 standing without skills e.g. Connections. Both an individual or corp standing should work for jump clones.

As suggested above, your standing may also be rounded off to 8, whereas it may be slightly less. Doing a few more missions should sort out the issue in any case.

Any colour you like.

K, thanks for the input.
Guess I'll have to do a couple more missions tomorrow; too sleepy for now.

And I did relog - that was my first reaction Shocked

They're right,
EVE is rounding up in a weird manner, so sometimes a 8.0 is a real 7.99999999
and as i know standings are beeing taken into account after downtime, so do 1 or 2 more missions, and wait until the next downtime.

If this does not work, create a new corp, it should have your standings, create your clones, and join your old corp.

Nothing weird about this specific rounding. That's the way rounding works.

He says it is weird because some numbers that are rounded up act as the number it was before rounding up.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

So either Estel Arador Corp Services don't work any more, or you haven't heard of them.

There are people that like to acquire jump clones as an achievement, not just as another candy given to them for nil by other people. There's a reason instant gratification isn't universally appreciated.

It's not really weird. The number is rounded when shown in UI since it would look stupid to show exact number with all the decimals. When number is used to check your required standing it is not rounded since there is no reason to round it there.

The EZ jc install method:

1. Park your phat ass in the station.
2. JC out.
3. Profit, as you now have a JC in the station you just left.

that's how "rounding to nearest" works. weird comes from the fact that number shown is not relevant. rounded number (8.00) conveys information that creating a jump clone is possible, while actual number (7.999) prevents it. in this specific case, it would be logical to round down (7.99), and provide player with relevant information, or accept round to nearest number as relevant.

The word you are looking for is "truncate." Using "rounding down" in that context makes my inner math nerd twitch. I know technically it's correct, but rounding is done 4/5 up/down respectively (and in physics 4.44444444444...5/4.4444444444444...4.) Anything else is "weird."

correction accepted. while rounding down works for positive standing, truncate would work properly for both positive and negative standings.

This is because many programming languages automatically truncate visual representations of numbers without truncating the actual values. This is because many convenient decimal floating point numbers can not be exactly represented in binary. A common example is the number .1
The binary representation of .1 is:
0.000110011001100...
However, because computers can only store a finite number of bits, they can not repeat that decimal, so the last 0 gets rounded up to a 1, which gives us:
.10000000000000001 in decimal.

Thus we can have really weird things, such as:
.1 == .10000000000000001.

This is why when comparing floating point numbers, you never use the == operator. You always use the < and > operators and/or compare against a RANGE of floating point numbers instead of an exact value.
