Jump drives can lock onto a little cyno field... why cant they lock onto stars?

I would imagine you could jump system to system using suns in each system as a way to jump. It would kinda add some 'freedom' to jump drive vessels. Also a predictive way to chase some capitals. As these ships would jump to the sun.

To lock onto a stars signature and jump to it ,a ship requires a Accelerated Neutrino Coaxial Signature Annihilator Drive (ANCSAD). Sadly there is no such item in the game.. hence you cant jump to stars...

I hope this helps and answers your question.

Counterproposal: Remove cynos and force everything to use gates.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

Because sitting at the sun in a fleet big enough to kill a capital in <2 minutes for an extended period of time, in the vague hope that a capital *happens* to jump into you, would be extremely unproductive.

Oh, and because capital ship logistics is easy enough as it is.

Counter counter proposal: Remove gates and force everyone to use jump drive ships.

Because....stars are actually giant bouncy castles and capital ships refuse to take their shoes off.

Semi counter counter proposal, keep gates but allow gates to be moved mid use with their own jump drive to cynosural fields.

I suspect the reason why Jump Drives can not lock onto Stars is because when you Jump, you materialise on top of or in the immediate vicinity of the gravity signature. So if you Jumped to a Star you would materialise inside or on the surface of the Star, meaning instant Annihilation of you and your ship.

A little Cyno field in the depths of space, on the other hand, will be completely safe.

Because then you wouldn't need to pay for an alt.

Counter subside proposal.

I have felt that gates could have their own cyno beacons themselves. Only able to move along that gate's path. Essentially the caps still use fuel but can go from one gate to jump to the next one. Allowing caps to move with other fleets if so desired instead of splitting up when there isn't access to a titan bridge. The hot drop is still needed of course, cut off distance to safe fuel, fast moving, etc. I have other ideas in regards to this mechanic and the changes to sec status, but that is for another thread.
