uses for a carrier outside of blob/POS warfare

I really want to fly a carrier, but I really don't want to be stuck in a corp that expects me to be free 24/7 in the case that one of our POSes gets reinforced, then expects me to defend it at 3am.

Before I go training for carrier, then, I'd like to know -- is there any use for that class of ship outside of the abovementioned insane POS warfare? Keep in mind I'd be flying to heal, not to try and do MAD DEEPS.

A carrier is great for personal logistics, especially if you mainly fly frigates and cruisers.
Oh yeah, fighter assigning is also p cool.

The primary use for any carrier is logistics - to haul your stuff from point A to point B.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

So... not for personal or gang combat then? lol :)

If so, it's mostly for RR either in triage mode or untriaged as part of a spider tank.

Personally, I'd agree with the above guys - the reason for undocking mine is mostly for personal logistics - but I don't like flying caps as much in general - haven't undocked my Dread in 4 years - at least the carrier gets flown fro time to time.

Triage carriers are meant to be solo pwn mobiles in low and null sec.

Carriers are impressive ratters when fitted for the purpose; they are on par with pirate BS (30M ticks nullsec ratting).

There are some odd fits for small gang warfare and you can always use them as pos boosters with fighters as a bonus.

In wormhole space carriers are used mainly for logistics purposes and the fights there tend to be smaller scale than in nullsec.

In wormhole space Carriers can be a hassle to use at times due to its large mass that eats up the capacity of a wormhole.

As a result you have to bring a smaller fleet if you want to use a Carrier.

A handful of logistics can do the same job that a Carrier can, while being mostly cheaper and taking up less mass, allowing you

to bring a larger fleet through a hole before it collapses.
