There needs to be a screening of how well you can handle alcohol before going up on stage. Day before Fanfest starts, everyone who plans on taking the stage needs to down 12 whatever brand the Icelandic drink in 10 minutes and be able to speak for 10 seconds without looking like an idiot.

******* melvins, man.

One guy says something off the cuff and suddenly everything has to change. Party over, everyone go home. You people are why we can't have nice things. Sure, you'll blame the Mittani. You'll rant and rave about how his comments were 'vile' and 'evil,' and then what will you do? Punish everyone else.

You whiny, authoritarian moral demagogues just can't stand it, can you? You want it clean and polished, detached from any emblance of humanity. You know what another word for clean is? Sterile.

CCP camped the gate at the airport with a tour bus, cases of beer, and bottles of jack. That is amazing, unexpected, and fun.

CCP has always had a unique relationship with its players. They've always been the kind of company that you could (literally) sit down and share a drink with, shooting the **** about almost anything while playing a drinking game. CCP has an image; they're gamers, they're fun, they're UNIQUE. They're NOT the suits other game developers and publishers are. They're like you and me. They talk to us, and sometimes they even listen.

Now, because one guy said one thing you want to throw out one of the truly unique elements of CCP's relationship with their fans. God forbid CCP reveal themselves to be human beings for even a split second. That would undermine the faceless corporate facde the thin skinned, politically correct masses want to see.

We play a game about space ships. That doesn't mean we have to be COMPLETE nerds.

The fact that things got out of hand due to alchool does not mean that CCP benefits or should interfere with player behaviour at gatherings (or elsewhere for that matter).

This is assuming it is appropriate to call what happened "out of hand", mostly considering CCP's reaction and the visibility through bad press (=bad business) the incident originated.

What goes on at events is up to the players that are free individuals and CCP has nothing to do with it nor should restrict or provide guidelines for what people do as it is not their responsbility, in the same way that sports teams/leagues are not responsible for what the attending audience does at sports matches.

What gets broadcasted to the whole world as CCP branded content, that is a problem for the business and for the company.

Therefore I do NOT expect any guidelines for player behaviour of any kind, but I DO expect guidelines for what people can do or not do when on air on EVE TV, or a SuperBowl like scheme where the feed is 5 minutes delayed so content can be censored before broadcast.

This has nothing to do with freedom. Individuals can still do whatever they want. Companies can also do whatever they want and as such they chose what gets broadcasted or not.

Considering some kind of restrictions / guidelines for player behaviour as something that can result from this process is (again) taking things too far. All of what happened, basically very stupid but mostly harmless behaviour, has sparked an over bloated reaction but I guess if you open the door to storms you sometimes get tsunamis.

That idears are just terrible troll stuff.

It is in no way hard to get some secure people and let them have an eye on people who drink beer after beer or start to be loud/agressive/can't walk streight.

This is NOT to penelize the fans but to protect them against these guys who don't know their limits!

If you know you can drink 5 beer without doing stupid stuff or brain lag .. drink your 5 beer BUT DON'T TOUCH THE 6th!

If you get the 6th you are not cool but just a ******* braindead idiot!

Why the hell can't I fitt capital repairs or shield booster on an Orca ... it's an CAPITAL ship!

As eminently more bashable as CCP grows by the day...

...Since when is it their responsibility that one raging douchebag--or more than one, even--can't hold their liquor?

They should just do what bars do all over the planet--if someone is obviously too far off their ****, then refuse further alcohol, and if they act up about it, eject them from the premises.

Who cares about fanfest? Worry more about devs drinking on the job. That's gotta be why Eve resembles a game of Fizbin.

It becomes their responsibility when they are providing the alcohol. You can't meet people at the airport with handles of JD and cases of beer and then act shocked when people are drunk later.

Restriction of alcohol is bad, i mean realy bad.

And who cares.

Cars kills tens of thousands people each day. Medicine kills even more. Food in supermarket, what the hell ??

Best defence is restrict life. And then everything will be perfect. I mean it.

No. That would just create more problems and alienate a majority of people who go to fanfest for the social aspect.

I would like to see some more "Sorry buddy, but you have had enough" though.

I wouldn't mind if CCP took the policy of telling anyone obviously stupid-drunk to not get on the stage, and certainly the people serving drinks should refuse to serve people who have already obviously had enough (I think the law in Iceland actually demands it, too). Beyond that, not really a fan of artificial restrictions.

I think some players need a reality adjustment though. If I paid (well, hopefully, when I pay) for a plane ticket to Iceland, I would prefer the alliance panel to have more interesting things than drunken people saying things I could hear on Jita local for the price of the subscription and without ever leaving home. While I do not expect useful intel, these are actually guys who have built some of the most successful alliances in the game. There's a lot they could say that would be more interesting and/or funnier than "a drunken brag-a-thron", as someone aptly put it.
