Or would I get more out of just taking the month of training time to get my ass in a vargur and set up my skill hard wiring for that?

Missions? Vargur or Machariel.

I am pretty close to being able to afford a mach, but I feel like it is wrong flying it without faction.

soooo... you have the skills to fly a sleipnir, yet are so poor that you can't afford a mach, and then you want to spend money on implants... this somehow doesn't quite compute.

in case you are serious, i would advise you to scan down and clear a few C3 whs and use the money to get a decently fit mach. a full T2 fit with XL shield and cap booster as well as AB will get you through almost any lvl4

I should buy an Ishtar.

My entire sleipnir fit atm is less than 1 bill isk including my dead space booster and 3x republic fleet gyro's. sure it does 130 less dps. and lacks the range. But I have better skills for it than a machariel. Also implants are cheap if you buy them with lp. You can get 2x 5% implants of your wishing in a day of blitzing level 4's. "even less if you know how to spend your lp right and can do level 5's."

Plus who in their right mind buys a 1 bill isk ship and than fits it with tech 2. That is just stupid. Might as well work your way up faction fitting a maelstrom and upgrade hulls when you have a good fit.

Wow they must have a lot of isk, where do people usually run these faction maelstroms and officer machs?

Actually, the only faction gear you really need on a Mach is the gyros, so it looks like you're set.

A T2 XL booster, 3 hardeners, and an AB is more than enough tank for level 4's. If you're worried, fit a DC II instead of a 4th gyro.

Edit: As for the hardwirings, go for the Surgical Strike in slot 9, at least. Maybe the falloff one in slot 7, too. In general, stick with gun implants.

Is this sig EVE related?

I prefer the Surgical Strike in Slot 9. In Slot 7, I go for the Motion Prediction implant. More damage and more tracking is good for any turret ship.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

The maelstrom is only lacking very slightly in the dps of a machariel. The real difference is the range advantage the mach has over the mael. Do I don't see why it would be any harder to get faction gear in a mael over a mach. Especially if you were running incursions.
