The Tech 3 Covert Ops Cloaking Device (bonus: a counter to botting)

as an alternative to using standings as a mechanism to implement this, the player could have the ability to set the color of his tag as seen by all the other players in local (or anywhere else the tag is presented) when cloaked. this would mean that the cloaked ship would have to have knowledge of the standard colors used by the target ship's corporation (if they have any). this would encourage inter-corp espionage, which is just fun. it would also nerf the capabilities of the cloak a bit, and it probably wouldn't have the cool-down period that i previously discussed

the only negative is that i have a feeling that this would be much more difficult to implement from a programming standpoint, because tag colors are handled client-side if im not mistaken.

EDIT: in regards to blackops BS, i dont think this module would really add much to those ships, as they are now. blackops bs are in need of a buff - they arn't really worth the price right now. they are close to being useful, imho, but need just a bit more. i think that if their align time was improved (the cloak-align is a neat trick, but not practical), or if they could fit a covops cloak, i'd use one. while im at it, id really like to see the old steathbomber 125% increased cloaking velocity per level added back to combat recon ships.

hey, youre pretty good at writing that stuff! still, i really wouldnt want this limited to blackops bses. alternatively, i suppose that you could turn this into a gang-link type module that is limited only to black ops bses - but the the effect would work on all the ships in gang with the ba, which might be too powerful...

i still want this to be a tech 3 ship thing for some reason

sorry to double post, but id like some feedback on this idea from the devs. ill drop this if they dont think its a worthwhile idea. how often do devs read these post, and how often do they repond? im new to these forums... is there any way to know if this is being discussed in iceland?

Sprouting from my own contribution here. Blacks Ops could be a whole brand of ships!

Black Ops would be contraband including the ship itself
Black Ops unique ship modules and craft components would be contraband.
Black Ops could reduce security status if caught (new Crimewatch in future)
Black Ops becomes a division of shipline: 'Clandestine Shipline'.
Black Ops can be used positively and specially or;
Black Ops would be favoured by the Pirate corporations and Smugglers.

The Devs almost never respond to individual ideas.

The only way you find out if they like them is if it turns up in the game later.
