Can someone please tell me why in a 0.5 system I'll get a couple frigs and cruiser faction rats spawning, but when I go to a 0.6 BAM suddenly it's battleships that insta-neut me??? Please explain the logic to this.

Don't go to 0.6 systems.

Heh, guess you stumbled onto one of the cosmos belts I believe. There are some systems in the game with a belt containing powerful npc battleships, these are part of a mission string, hence the mission loot item.

This isn't normal, and only a few systems have these.

Deal with it.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

I am not talking about BELT RATS or rats at EXPLORATION SITES. I am in faction warfare, and I am talking about the NPC military ships that spawn when an enemy faction player enters the system and chases them, like a miniature, subdued CONCORD. In 0.5 systems two frigate and two cruiser rats spawn and I can pretty much permatank them in a Drake. In 0.6 suddenly it's battleships spawning that neut the **** out of me in about 10 seconds and can kill me within 30. This is some bullshit difficulty slope right there.

CCP changed the NPC spawning mechanics recently, they are no longer predictable and are more randomized.

This is normal. The idea is to prevent you from functioning in enemy faction space. The spawn scales based on the sec level. 2 frigs, 2 cruisers in 0.5. One battleship, 2 cruisers and on frig in 0.6-0.8. 2 battleships, on cruiser and one frig in 0.8-1.0.

Yes the can be killed but they drop nothing and salvage for a few metal scraps. The frigs always web, cruisers always damp and the battleships always neut. (no matter what faction). once you kill one it is quickly replaced with the same type.
